"The light's yellow, so start easing up on the gas. Brake. Brake! Kota, brake!"
Dakota slams on the brakes making both her and Tyler fly forward. Tyler lets out a heavy breath, "Okay. I think that's enough for today. Switch me."
Dakota gets out of the car as Tyler catches his breath. Suddenly, his eyes widen, "Put it in park, Kota!" Tyler exclaims as the car begins rolling forward.
"I'm sorry!" Dakota yelps quickly getting back into the driver's seat and putting the car in park, millimeters from the car in front of them.
The two get out of the car and switch seats. Tyler drives the rest of the way home, his heart finally back to a normal rhythm.
"How'd I do?" Dakota asks after a moment of silence.
Tyler sighs, "Could use more practice. I should've started you out in an empty lot."
"I wasn't that bad," Dakota mutters.
"No, but you weren't great either."
The twin sighs, "When are you going out with Josh again?"
"Tomorrow night. Why?"
"Can Casey come over?"
"I don't care. I think Jamie is coming over too. Dylan and her are going to the movies or something."
"Can we drink?"
Tyler glances at his daughter, "Can you drink? Let me see your ID."
Dakota scoffs, "That's not fair."
"How is that not fair? You're 16, no you can't drink. I didn't drink until I was 21, and I don't want my kids doing it either."
"That is a bunch of bull. There's no way you waited until you were 21."
"That's my story and I'm sticking to it," Tyler chuckles as he pulls into the driveway. "Plus, there's not even alcohol in the house. I'll do anything for my girls, but I'm not buying for minors."
Dakota rolls her eyes as they both exit the car, "I thought you were a cool dad."
"Hey. I'm hip," Tyler states, putting his fists on his hips and jutting a hip out.
"Ugh, don't say that. Or do that. Like ever again."
"Just because I'm old, I can't get jiggy with it?" Tyler smiles, dancing as he walks toward the front door.
"Ew, dad!" Dakota groans, quickly going inside, shutting the door in the man's face. Tyler laughs and follows her inside.
-
"Hey, come on in, I'm almost ready."
Josh smiles and steps in the house, Elton immediately coming up to smell him. Tyler opens his mouth but is cut off by screaming.
"Give it back!"
"Not until you give me my sweater back!" Dylan shouts, sprinting down the steps, her sister got on her trail.
"I'm wearing it tonight!"
"Sweater or eyeliner," Dylan says, running behind Tyler and using him as a shield. "Take your pick!"
"Gimme it!" Dakota demands.
"Gimme my sweater!"
"It goes with my outfit!"
"Pick a new one!"
"Dad!"
"Dad!"
"Hi."
