"Hello, Maddie?"
"Kuya, at last you answered. Why did you suddenly go back? You didn't even wait for me and dad."
"Im sorry madz. I thought it would be best to go before I hurt all of your feelings. I know that I have been disappointing you guys lately."
She didn't respond right away which means what I just said was right.
"Well, we will be waiting when you're ready. And umm, mom just wanted to say she's sorry for losing it. Goodnight, we love you kuya"
"Yeah. Goodnight." Then I heard a beep on the other line. I looked around me and didn't see Jane. My eyes are tired now. I decided to sleep and see what will happen next when I open my eyes.
The next morning was just like any other. I went to office. Work. work. work. Meeting. Work. Then office hours are over again.
"How are you and Derek doing lately?" I ask Sid while we're on our way down the elevator.
She looked down at her foot and smile. "Oh my gosh. I think you had stop being my bestfriend a month ago."
"Why? Is there something I don't know?"
"Uhm. Haven't you heard.. We broke up last month."
I stood there, mouth open. Im so disappointed at myself. "Im sorry, Sid. I suck."
"I know right. I was gonna tell you that." She said as we stepped out at the elevator.
"That I suck?"
"No, that Derek and I broke up. And yes, that you suck at being my bestfriend lately. But don't worry Im such a good friend, I understand.
"Are you ok? Wanna grab some dinner?"
"Are you trying to make up for being such a bad friend?"
"Im not bad. I'm hungry and I know you are too."
"Alright. Your treat"
We walk towards the nearest restaurant of Sbarro. I wanted to ask Sid what happened between her and Derek. I mean, they're perfect together. Derek may have an attitude sometimes but he
obviously loved Sid. One time, I remember our officemates talking about a guy professing how much he's sorry and that he loves Sid by bringing a boquet of flowers while singing "Hinahanap-hanap Kita". Yeah. I kind of laughed at first but when I saw Sidney coming out of our Department head's office looking deflated and humiliated I immediately stopped myself.
"Don't look at me like that." She said while sitting at her chair.
"He just made an effort you know." I said trying my best not to burst out laughing.
"Well he just sent me to our department head's office, plus I dont like public display of affection. You know that."
I threw my hands up in the air laughing and went back to my desk.
So that's the story. I look at Sid sitting in front of me, digging in her own pizza.
"What are you looking at. I'm famished"
"I can see that. So Sid, how did--uhm. How--"
"How did we broke up? Easy. We just simply realized that we don't belong to each other anymore."
"So it's a mutual decision?"
She finished chewing the pizza first before answering, "The thing is.. I don't love him anymore, Nick. And he doesn't understand me as much ad I don't understand him."
"Clearly, there's a misunderstanding." I said as I ate my pizza because I noticed that Sid's plate is almost empty.
"Yep. You got it. There's a big misunderstanding from the very beginning. I have come to realize again that it was a mistake to give him another chance."
"I don't understand. He seems like a good guy."
Sid pause for a moment and took a sip in her iced tea. "He cheated on me."
Once again my mouth dropped open, "Where's that douchebag? What's up with him? He's got a very brilliant woman in his hands with and he just cheated on? That's--"
I saw Sid blushed for a moment.
"Hey, calm down." She muttered
smiling.
''I just can't believe he had the nerve." I told her, blood in my veins still boiling. Just like every girl in this world, she deserves someone who would defend her.
"Yeah. I deserved more than that." She said in a voice like she's hurt.
"I'll drive you home." Then suddenly I felt like there's someone eyeing us.
