Amanté pulled me closer to his chest, trying to leave nothing between us except our clothing and my hand that laid against his heart.
"If we want this to work we'll have to be convincing." Amanté articulated and my brows furrowed with curiosity that his words brought with them along with sound.
"How convincing?"
I raised the question.
"Spending time together, holding hands, hugging, and kissing." He listed, framing the image of what our future years together would hold and I truly wasn't ready for any of it.
"I suddenly feel nauseous." I expressed, keeping my eyes locked with his as the music picked up its pace causing us to follow.
"You'll have to get used to that feeling if you want this to work." He stated and I released a sigh of defeat.
"Fine, I'll play this game."
Amanté didn't require another response as he gave me a pleased smile while the hand he had on my cheek took a hold of my hand to spin me around until the beat stopped, allowing his actions to follow and his hand to swiftly drift towards my neck and with this new hand placement came the act of him dipping me.
"Kiss me." He directed, using his strength to prevent my body from meeting the cold ground, and I forced back my look of disgust at his order as I stared into his stormy eyes that never let anything pass them.
"If I didn't know better I would say this was all a scheme to get a kiss from me."
"You do know better because you know I'm not particularly attracted to—"
No longer wanting to hear the sound of his voice, I interrupted him the only way I saw fit in this situation since it required this act either way, so when our lips in abrupt kiss, he wasn't sure how to act at first as his lips remained stiffen again mine, but when I placed both my hands against his cheeks he slowly became present in the moment, kissing me back with the set goal to leave us breathless.
This wasn't bad.
I thought, half expecting him to be a horrible kisser but I liked this, I liked how he paced our kiss perfectly and didn't make me feel overwhelmed at all like I thought he would, so when he moved me to stand properly before breaking the kiss, I was slightly disappointed because the kiss had built a curiosity that wasn't satisfied with the scraps it was given.
I returned my hand to its rightful place upon his heart that was beating erratically, and I knew the reason behind their fast beats was due to lack of air, air that was gradually reentering to our lungs since the kiss ended.
"Cu."
When he whispered that word I felt my body rising into the air, but I wasn't given the chance to immediately react as he briefly kissed me again.
"How—you said we had to have a conn—"
"I asked Kamilah and Efia to put water inside the clothes so I could control them because I knew we'd need to sell the lie that this engagement isn't arranged to the crowd." He elucidated while we slowly made our way to the floor, and when we greeted the ground everyone began applauding.
"You're actually smart."
"Why was there any doubt?" He inquired and I didn't get to respond as a small group of people approached us.
"Amanté you must introduce us to your fiance." One of the women ordered him after bowing and he plastered a smile on his lips as he gazed down at me lovingly, putting on a show for the people that surrounded us.
