"Your room is surprisingly clean," I noted as he closed the door behind me.

"I'm glad you noticed because I'd like to keep it that way." Amanté stated while slipping off his shoes.

"I won't mess it up." I assured him as he removed his jacket.

"I'm going to take a shower, feel free to use the other bathroom through that door." He instructed me before bringing himself and his discarded jacket into one of the bathrooms.

I released a sigh when he closed the door because I was finally alone after being surrounded by people who wanted to talk my ears off for more than six hours.

Tonight only established another reason why I spent my entire life avoiding such big events whenever I received an invitation because this was draining, socialising was draining.

I made my way towards the second bathroom to take a quick shower as I still had to meet the king and queen later tonight for the meeting about Amanté and I's wedding date, and although I was a bit nervous about what this meeting would entail, I was still confident that I had convinced them that Amanté and I were in love.

Then again, confidence is such a fragile thing when not nurtured to be strong.

I wrapped the towel that was hanging on a rod around my body before making my way outside the bathroom where I greeted the view of Amanté putting on his shoes.

"Where are my clothes?" I questioned him which had his orbs lifting from the current action of his hands to meet my eyes.

"In there." He directed me while pointing at the door in the corner of the room and I didn't hesitate to head in that direction so that I could change into something more comfortable, and I soon realised it was his closet.

It didn't take me more than five minutes to complete that act and when I left the closet he was standing in front of the door that would grant me an exit to this deafening silence between us.

"You're blocking my path," I stated and he turned around, pulling the exit open.

"I'm coming with you."

"Can't we be away from each other for more than five minutes?" I asked him and he nodded.

"We can but not right now." He declared, causing a sigh to erupt from my throat to fall from my lips.

"Why do you even want to come?"

"I haven't had an inch of control in this arrangement and I want to change that now," Amanté explained, and I knew he expected me to care about his wants but I honestly didn't, because if I allowed him to have control he'd use the little power he held to destroy what I had been building for months since Amanté had been transparent about what he wanted...who he wanted.

"No. I can't trust that you won't try to jeopardise this meeting." I confessed and he crossed his arms with a frown that showed he was offended, or he was pretending to be.

"I won't, I promise." He guaranteed, but nothing he said could convince me as I moved past him, well tried since he stepped in front of me to block my path again.

"As if your words hold any weight, get out of my way," I asserted and he listened, moving aside.

I didn't waste another second as I was already out of the room and making my way down the hall that would take me closer to my destination.

"I just realised I don't need your permission to attend, it is about our wedding after all."

I heard Amanté behind me and I pushed away my irritation as I glanced over my shoulder to reply.
