chapter twenty-eight

N.J.H.

"Are you okay?"

Harry and I sit in his car, darkness enclosing us into an eerie silence. The events at dinner have left us immensely upset, with a massive amount of issues to think on.

"No." I tell him, "I'm not okay at all."

"I'm sorry about my dad," he says immediately, "It wasn't fair that we had to sit there and take his reaction. That was my fault, I shouldn't have blurted out that information."

"Harry," I say honestly to him, "I don't care. He's truly a jerk and I can't spend time thinking about jerks and their jackass lives. He can fuck Tiffany, hate me and our friends, hell he can try and revert me back to heterosexuality. He's not gonna get under my skin, no matter how hard he tries."

He presses his lips to my forehead, whispering a quick 'I love you'. I return the words silently as he starts the car and drives to his house for the night.

Today is the day. I can feel it in my fragile bones when I wake up this morning; something wild and exotic is going to flip my entire daily ritual around. Clothes are scattered all over the ground and I look at the clock, noticing it's almost eleven thirty.

"Thank god it's a Friday," I mutter, getting up from Harry's bed and stretching. It's then when I don't feel Harry's arms draped all over the bed like they usually are.

"Harry...?"

I pull his flannel from under the pile of sheets and wrap it around my chilled body. The stairs seem to take longer to descend down as I step off every plank of wood. The tiles are warmer than usual and I notice Harry had the floor set to be warmer. I smile, noting his attentiveness.

On the counter is a pink sticky-note, hanging loosely on the marble. I snatch it before it floats to the ground, reading the message written on it.

Hey darling, I had to head out early; meeting with my beloved father. I'm sorry I couldn't be here to cook you breakfast and kiss you constantly, but you looked so innocently beautiful while sleeping and I couldn't bear to wake you.

I'll see you at work, I don't mind what time you come in. You had a long night, I know.

Love you,

H

I smile, folding the note and slipping it in the pocket of the flannel. He can be so poetic at times, it's flustering. Though he says it doesn't matter what time I come in, I decide to get ready and leave now so I won't have to stay in the later hours and work 'till the last person leaves.

The office is buzzing today, cubicles overcrowding and voices echoing on all the walls. I know immediately that today is a full on brainstorming day. New movies, casting, the whole works is occurring today. Knowing it's a busy day makes me feel a bit less elated, but I don't let it bring me down.

I greet a few co-workers before stopping into my own office, putting down my bag and cracking my back.

"Shit..." I groan, stretching my arms around. I'd hate to say it, but I'm seriously getting old. As I walk to my desk, I trip over a cardboard box, making my body feel even worse.
