chapter forty

N.J.H.
Saturday. It feels good that it's Saturday. Perfect even. I successfully received Harry's totally amazing birthday present (which is in fact a custom made ring), and now I'm home, waking up from a nap. The concert is only a week away, but the usual concert hype I have isn't there this time. Though, that's not all I'm thinking about.

I guess Harry's house really is home now. I feel better though, knowing that I'm not bothering Louis with my drama every five seconds in his own home.

Plus, it would've been terribly weird after the week we had.

My phone rings and when I see it's across the room, I groan loudly. It's too fucking far for my to exert effort. It goes to voicemail and I stretch as the front door opens.

"Hey babe," I call out, feeling him lean over to kiss me.

"Hey Ni," he says, dropping his stuff on the floor and loosening his tie, "I've um, got some news."

I turn to him, seeing that he's completely tense. Why didn't I notice it before? I lead him to the couch, letting him sit down before I climb into his lap.

"You're so tense," I mumble, rubbing his shoulders, "come on, what's got you so riled up?"

He licks his lips before looking up at me with tears poking in the corners of his eyes,

"I got fired."

earlier today
I head into the office, a smile on my face and a bright light shining in my heart. The morning had started well with Niall acting like he was a CIA agent for successfully hiding my birthday present the bathroom closet and being all cute and such. After last week, it just seems as if we've gotten stronger as a couple. Never again will I take Zayn's advice though, even though it resulted well.

I want to let loose, I do, but giving him up like he's a harlot is one thing I refuse to do.

A few people wave as I walk by and I return their gestures happily. I shut my door with my foot before dropping my things on the desk.

"Jesus," I sigh, picking up the folder I need to look at and reading through. The day goes on like this until my lunch break, reading and reading all these files that need reviewing. And it sucks because Niall (who decided to take a day off; the lucky bastard) isn't here and he's usually the interest in my day.

If he was here now, he'd probably be sitting here with his laptop in his lap and this cocky smile on his face as he did his work and had his feet on my desk. God I love him, and it's weird because we're only running up to six months of dating.

I find it unsettling that it's only been at least six months and I already want to propose.

I had talked to Zayn about it the other night, and he told me to hold off; a lot. It seems as if being in a relationship with Niall means so much more than any other relationship I've ever been in.

Proposing this early would be crazy, but with my dad getting married and all, I guess wedding fever is captivating me. Soon I find myself drifting off from my work and searching for engagement rings. I bookmark a couple pages, knowing I'll look into them later.
