The walk back to Bobby's house was bitterly cold. As much as I wanted to get back to see Bee, I knew the boys would be mad. I would be naive if I thought they couldn't figure out why Bianca was miraculously back to life. Snowflakes fell around me and tangled in my hair as each of my breaths fanned out as vapor clouds in the air.
Fear built in my chest as I climbed the stairs to the house. I took a deep breath, turned the knob, and stepped inside.
"It's really coming down out there." I slipped my boots off and shook the snowflakes off myself.
Dean sat at the kitchen table shooting daggers at me. "That's all you have to say?"
"What are you talking about?" I prayed the redness from the cold air would hide my blush.
"Why don't you take a look into the living room?" Dean asked. "An idea what she's doing here?"
I looked into the living room where Bianca stood frozen. Her eyes flicked from me to Dean. I rushed in and hugged her. Bianca didn't reciprocate. She pushed me away.
"What did you do?" She demanded.
"Nothing," I said. "I went for a walk. It's a miracle you're back."
I tried to hug her again, but Bianca took a step back. "Don't lie to me, Mel."
For the hundredth time tonight, tears leaked down my cheeks. "I'm so sorry."
A glass shattered behind me. I turned and spread my arms out to protect Bianca. Dean had stood up. One of the rocks glasses we had been drinking out of lay in one hundred pieces by the front door.
Dean stomped toward me as Sam threw open the door to the stairs. With a quick assessment of the room, Sam grabbed Dean and pushed him back.
"Let me go, Sam," Dean growled.
"Not if you're going after Melanie." Sam continued to shove him. "What's the matter with you?"
Dean stopped fighting. "Why don't you turn around Sam?"
Slowly, Sam turned. His face fell as he recognized the woman behind me. Sam's mouth opened and closed a few times as a thousand thoughts rushed through his head.
"How?" That was all he could say.
More tears spilled down my cheeks.
"Do you want to tell him or should I?" Dean asked.
Tears filled Sam's eyes as well. "Melanie?"
I stepped toward Sam, but he took a step back. I swallowed hard. "Sam, I'm so sorry."
Sam looked at the floor as his jaw clenched. He met my eyes. "What did you do?"
"I couldn't bear it. If Dean were—"
Sam held up his hand. "What. Did. You. Do."
A sob caught in my throat as I met his sad eyes. "I sold my soul."
Dean cursed under his breath. Sam looked away from me. All three of us cried.
"How long?" Bianca asked.
"Fifteen months." I sniffled.
Bianca pulled her arms up to cover her face. Glass sprayed everywhere as Dean chucked the other glass against the wall. Sam looked at me with tears streaking down his cheeks. Without a word, Sam walked out. Dean shot me a hard look before following his brother.
I turned to Bianca. "Please. If I had died..."
"I would've done the same thing." Bee's arms wrapped around me.
