Ain't No Rest for the Wicked

As we slowly picked off demons, Bobby went to the water tower to turn all running water in the town to Holy Water. I was cutting through a yard when two hands shoved me facefirst into a fence, hard. They held me there with so much force, I thought I was dead for sure.

"I'd like my knife back, please, or your neck snaps like a chicken bone." It was Ruby.

"She doesn't have it. Take it easy." My savior was Sam. I could only assume Dean was close behind.

The pressure slowly released from behind me. I didn't turn around. Not yet. I needed the fear to leave my face. I wouldn't give her that satisfaction.

"How the hell did you get out?" Dean asked.

"What you don't know about me could fill a book," Ruby said.

Dean groaned. "Whoa."

"What?" Ruby asked.

"Nothing. I just..." Dean sighed. "I couldn't see you before. You're one ugly broad."

Ruby huffed, but I refused to turn around. I didn't need to see her face. If it was as bad as Dean said, it would only haunt me if we got out of here.

"Sam, give me the knife before you hurt yourself," Ruby said.

"You'll get it when this is over." It was nice to hear Sam standing up to her. Maybe he would be okay if Dean and I didn't make it out.

"It's already over. I gave you a way to save Dean and Melanie, you shot me down. Now it's too late. They're dead. And I'm not gonna let you die, too," Ruby said. Since when did she care that much about him?

"Try and stop me, and I'll kill you, bitch," Sam said.

"Hit me with your best shot, baby," Ruby said.

"Guys, guys!" Dean shouted. I turned to look at him. "Hey. Have your little catfight later."

All around us, people were exiting houses and taking interest in the new arrivals. They knew we weren't supposed to be there, and it was clear they had orders to stop us. Everywhere I looked, there were demon faces. Things were about to get ugly.

"So much for the element of surprise," I said.

"Go. Go. Run Run!" Sam's voice grew more intense with each word.

We all took off with one destination in mind, Lilith's house. We made it to the door without an issue, but the demons were hot on our tails. Sam set to work picking the lock.

"What the hell is taking Bobby?" Dean asked.

Sam was trying his hardest but not succeeding under the pressure. "I'm trying."

Just as one demon set foot on the front lawn, the sprinklers kicked on. The man groaned in pain and writhed around as the Holy water hit him. A few others got hit with the spray and had the same result. Dean smiled next to me and even chuckled as Sam got the door unlocked with the barrier of water still between us. It felt like maybe things were swinging in our favor for once.

Inside the house lay the body of the man we watched Lilith kill earlier. It was weird standing over him as if he was another casualty of some hunt. It felt bigger.

"You think Lilith knows we're here?" Dean asked.

"Probably," Ruby said.

Without another word, we knew what we needed to do. We had to find Lilith and waste her, as simple as that. Sam began exploring the house first, with the knife held in front of him. He grabbed my hand and pulled me close behind him. Ruby and Dean brought up the rear.
