It didn't take long for me to track Sam's phone. Bee had always been the tech-savvy one, but I could hold my own. We arrived in Elizabethville just as the moon was starting to peak in the sky. We quietly approached the house and witnessed a demon in a priest's uniform stalking toward Sam.
Bobby fired the Colt, but he missed, blowing the head off a cherub statue outside. The demon turned toward him with rage on his face. With a simple flick of his wrist, Bobby went flying through the air and landed hard on the concrete drive.
All I could do was stare in horror as the demon turned back to Sam. Another push of the demon's hand and Sam was soaring backward. He collided with the windshield of the Impala. Dean was going to lose his mind.
I waited until the demon was gone to run over to Sam. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah." Sam took my hand to get off the car. "How's Bobby?"
"I'll make sure he's alright," I said.
"How did you know where we wer—"
The Colt came skittering across the cement. "Go!" Bobby yelled.
Sam looked at me, and I nodded. Ruby materialized out of thin air.
"You heard the man. Go." She nodded toward the door.
After giving me a quick hug, Sam raced through the door where the demon had disappeared. I shot Ruby a glare before tending to Bobby. Why did he listen to her? Was I not enough reassurance for him?
"Bobby, you alright?" I kneeled beside him.
"I'm getting too old for this shit." Bobby groaned as I helped him sit up.
"Anything broken?" I asked.
Bobby shook his head. "Nothin' more than a few bruises."
"Do we go in after them?" I asked.
"I wouldn't do that if I were you." Ruby marched over to us.
I rolled my eyes and stood up. "And why not?"
"What's about to happen in that basement could get ugly. I know how you care about Sam. You won't want to see him like that," Ruby said.
"How wouldn't I want to see him, hmm?" I asked. "Because the last time I checked, you weren't the one who's spent almost a year with these two hunting all over this cursed land. I've watched him die with my own two eyes. Nothing will ever be worse than that."
"What if he kills innocent people?" Ruby asked.
I shook my head. "You act like I haven't seen him kill someone before. You can't always save the people who are possessed." Then I muttered, "That's your kind's fault."
"Oh, you did not just say that." Ruby uncrossed her arms, which was strange because I'd never seen them that way before.
"You heard me." I turned to help Bobby up.
Ruby pushed me; not hard enough that I fell on top of Bobby, but I had to scramble to get my footing back. Without thinking, I pulled the vial out of my waistband and flicked Holy water in her face. She recoiled, and her eyes flashed black.
That just made her more mad. She charged at me with eyes still dark as a bottomless pit. I freed another thing from my waistband: iron knuckles infused with salt. They were a sweet sixteen birthday present from my dad.
When she swung at me, I dodged and slammed my fist into her ribs. Her skin sizzled through her shirt. Ruby backed away. Her eyes returned to normal, but rage never left her face.
"You bitch." Ruby marched toward me again.
Before I could prepare to land another punch, Ruby had knocked my iron knuckles off my hand. She grabbed my good wrist and twisted it back. I groaned in pain as I pushed back, but she was too strong.
