"Sometimes the person you'd take a bullet for is the person behind the trigger."
I ran all the way to home. Through deserted parks, down narrow lanes, across the empty streets. It felt like I had been running for hours. My bones felt stiff, my feets ached from my weight and my mind pounded from the constant thinking. I counted my steps mindlessly, kicking the rubble as i walked until I found myself back at the place where I found Zayn. If only he could be here now.. I could use someone to talk to. The grass was dry and crunchy below my feet, it was dying. My body slowly came in contact with it. The
day was still young, but everything around me was old, the shriveled grass, the aging trees, even the rotting wood of the fence built around me. I pulled my phone from my back pocket.
To zayn: Think you could meet me at our place? 'Our place?' I scrunched my eyebrows at my own wording.
From Zayn: I'll be there in 5. Are you okay?
To Zayn: I'm fine, just need to talk.
From Zayn: Alright babe.
I wasn't alone for much longer until he appeared. Trench coat down to his lean knees and hair spiked into all the right places. He didn't say anything to me, but only sat next to me. There was no room left between us, his arm lightly brushing mine, due to his breathing pattern.
"What do you know about Harry?" My eyes stung from dryness. I couldn't force myself to close my eyes not even for a second, knowing that maybe if I did that, when I opened them everything in front of me would be gone.
"I knew this would be to do with him." He sighs slightly annoyed.
"What's that supposed to mean?" My calm and collectiveness was hastily slipping away.
"I mean that he's dangerous and you should stay away from him. You don't know what you're getting yourself into."
"What is that supposed to mean? Why can't you just give me a straight answer?"
"Look, I wish I could tell you Mia, but I can't." His hand had swiftly made it to the side of my face, running his knuckle up and down in a calming motion.
"He has a secret." I state, not quite sure whether I was telling him or myself.
"You know what the secret is?"
"In a way, yes." I felt like with every word he spoke he gave me another piece of a jigsaw to put together.
"We all have secrets, Mia."
"Secrets are mistakes for liars," I spat rather harshly.
"Mia, don't take it to heart. Some people are just like that." He scrunched his eyes, as if talking about something other than what we were right now.
"I don't get it, though. One minute he acts like one person, the next minute another. He makes me feel like an object that belongs to him, not an actual person. Then there's this affection he gives me and I hate the way my body responds to it when my head is screaming no. I don't like lies. I have been lied to my whole life and when I meet this person who for once makes me feel like there's something else, I find out he's riddled with lies."
Zayn's fists were clenched by his knees, his frame built of steel. "That's why you need to stay away from him," he snarled.
"Zayn, are you okay?" I placed my hand lightly on his shoulder.
He was shaking slightly. He then turned to face me, his eyebrows were pulled together, as if he was worried about something. "I'm fine but can I do something?"
"What?" He didn't even answer me, but seal his lips with mine. What the hell?
My eyes flew open and my hands were on his chest attempting to push him away. He was literally forcing his face on mine. I just sat there like a doll until he was finished. He didn't hurt me but I was a little surprised by this turn of events.
"You about done?" I barked when he had eventually finished.
"Look, I'm sorry. I knew you'd be angry, but I just couldn't hold back any longer." He scratched the back of his head and looked at the ground awkwardly.
"You're damn right I'm angry!" I got to my feet and started storming away. Well done Mia running from your problems...again, you're good at that. Oh shut up subconscious. "Do not follow me," I shout behind me and he didn't.
I didn't run home like the frightened girl I used to be, but marched home like the warrior I was. It wasn't late but it felt like midnight, as though I was sneaking into the house past curfew. I shut the door quietly and tip toed from the door to the stairs like a ninja.
"Mia?" My mother was casually sitting at the breakfast bar in the kitchen. "What on earth are you doing? It looks like you're breaking into your own house!"
"Ehhh nothing, mum. Just going to my room." I pointed upstairs and tried to make my exit avoiding her questions.
"How was Gracie's?"
"Interesting," was all I said, before running up the stairs "Go to go, mum...I got fish to feed."
"Mia, you don't have fish." Oh yeah.. "You know, sometimes I wish I had a normal daughter. Is that to much to ask for?"
"YES!" I call from my doorway.
I got in and threw my bag with few supplies I brought to Harry's on my bed. I basically had my eyes closed while walking to my bathroom, tying my hair up, and taking off my clothes so I was in only Harry's top, where his smell still lingered.
"You know, you're terrible at strip tease. There should be way less clothing." The familiar, though perverted voice said.
I squealed. There's someone in my room! I hesitantly turned around with my minimal clothing on to see Harry making himself comfortable on my bed, lying back with his arms behind his head.....
