Forging A Different Trail

Ethan: I'm an air user. Like my brother...

Mallory: your brother was extremely skilled. Do you have the same amount of power?

Ethan: no, not really. I mean I can do some stuff but definitely not like him.

He stopped talking for a second, looking sad and thinking about his brother.

Alice: so what do you say? Will you join us?

Ethan: are we gonna go after the Strigoi that killed my brother?

Liam: definitely.

I looked at him in an angry way.

Alice: so will you come with us?

Ethan: I'm in if we're gonna get revenge and also my choices are kind of limited...

After he made his decision we got to know each other and tell our backstories. Alice told him about the orphanage and her brother. Liam told him about his mother dying in birth, how his father turned Strigoi and then about his brothers. And I told him my story as well.

Ethan: so the vampire that killed my brother has been hunting you these past years?

Mallory: yeah.

Ethan: and you're still alive? My brother was a master of his element and still died, how did you manage to stay alive.

Mallory: well I'm pretty good with my powers as well, I suppose I have very good survival skills, smart ways to deal with stuff and apparently tons of luck.

Ethan: are you a fire user?

Mallory: no, but Liam is. I'm a spirit user.

Ethan: I've never seen one in person.

Mallory: well at least you've heard of us, Alice and Liam didn't know an element like that even existed... But enough about us, tell us about yourself.

Ethan: well when I was eight my dad turned Strigoi and killed my mother. He tried to kill us as well but Alfred protected me. Since then we lived alone and did our best to survive. We were never hunters but we had to protect ourselves so dealing with monsters was very casual. But during last Fall he went missing, turns out they abducted him and I was left alone. At some point I got a letter saying that he was murdered, it probably was from the guy that killed him, the letter was saying that I was next and other sadistic stuff. And then I moved away, I started living here alone and life has been a bit hard. I'm constantly scared for my life, I have no one and I'm starving.

Mallory: well it'll be way better living with us, trust me. It'll be tough but it'll be better... What else should we know about you?

Ethan: well I'm twenty years old, I have no experience with hunting and I am an air user as I said before... These are the important things, you'll get to know me in time I guess and figure out the rest.

After talking for a couple of hours Ethan got his stuff, put them into the car and we all left together. We decided to go back to the motel and then everyone went quiet, during the whole ride no one said a word. When we got there Liam and Alice wanted the sleep early so they did and I took Ethan to a bar to get a drink together.

Ethan: why are we here?

Mallory: I thought that maybe we could get a drink and spend some time together.

Ethan: are you like the leader of the team?

Mallory: no I wouldn't say so. I'm just the most experienced, probably most powerful, the one who trains them and the person who started it.
