We have been running for a while now. The group at the front has dwindled down significantly, and the fog only continued to get thicker the more we ran. "Gon, Bella." Killua said after his eyes drifted away from Hisoka. "Let's go to the front." He said.
"Right." Gon said, determined. "The last thing we want to do is lose sight of the examiner."
"I think Killua had something else in mind." He wanted to distance himself from Hisoka. He must also feel the power coming from him. Killua smirked.
"You're pretty smart for a little girl. I want to put a little distance between us and Hisoka, but you seem to have guessed that Bella. Staying too close to him is dangerous." I smile.
"HEY KURAPIKA, LEORIO, KILLUA SAID WE SHOULD ALL MOVE UP TO THE FRONT OF THE PACK!" I cringe at Gon's shout. The tension in the air was thick, but Gon seemed to be unaffected by it.
"Hey calm down. Can't you feel the tension in the air?" Killua voiced my thoughts.
"YOU IDIOT! IF I COULD GO ANY FASTER, I'D BE AT THE FRONT FOR SURE." Leorio yelled back.
"GO AHEAD, WE'LL MEET YOU THERE." Kurapika followed up.
"Awwwwww." Gon whined at not being able to stay with Kurapika and Leorio.
"Let's go!" Killua started speeding up.
"I can't believe you're already so close to them." I laugh slightly. "Didn't you just meet them?"
"Yah, but there my friends." Gon made friends easily. I kinda did. My Mom brung me with her to some places while she was hunting for gems, and I made a few friends there, but they were people I would probably never see again. I just made friends with them out of boredom. Definitely not people I would go out of my way to help.
"I wonder what's happening. I keep hearing screams around us."Gon mentioned after we had been running for a while. Screams have started to steadily rise from all around us, probably people falling for the tricks of the creatures from the swamp land.
"That's why we need to be careful."
"I haven't seen the guys in a while. I just hope they're safe." Up ahead, I saw a large glow of aura. I stopped right before it, but unfortunately Killua and Gon kept running. I saw them get sucked up by a frog looking creature and watched as the frog walked away.
"Welp, guess I just have to keep going by myself." I started to run towards where the examiner was. I never lost the feeling of the aura as we were always pretty close to him, so I didn't feel the need to step in to guide us to him. I start running over to the examiner, reaching him fairly quickly. "Hi again Mr. Satotz." I match his pace, not knowing where we are going.
"Hello." He said, continuing to run.
"This sure is a long run. I think the last time I've ran this long is when I talked back to my Mom one time during training. She got super mad at me and made me run till she said stop." I laughed at the memory. "Once I become a hunter, Mom said that we can go play a game together. I can't remember what it's called right now, but she said it'll be super fun, so I'm excited." Mr. Satotz just listened to me quietly, not saying anything in return. "Say, do you know my Mom?" I ask.
"I have a guess, though I cannot say with certainty."
"Oh? What's your guess?" I ask, excited to see if he would guess someone other than Mom.
"I believe you are Biscuit Kreuger's daughter."
"Oh, so you do know her! That's right." Mr. Satotz just nodded, coming to a stop at a clearing up ahead. I look around at the people who were able to follow close behind. Killua or Gon weren't here yet. I stand close to Mr. Satotz, watching as people arrived, everyone breathing heavily.
"KILLUA!" I yelled out with a wave. He looked over and started walking toward me.
"Is Gon here yet?"
"I haven't seen him, but I think he'll find his way here." Gon was smart when it came to this kinda stuff, so I am confident he'll find his way here one way or the other. "Wanna play rock, paper, scissors?" I ask. Killua looked at me with a questioning look, but nodded his head anyway. "Yah! I love rock, paper, scissors." I say. Mr. Satotz's gaze was locked on me. I could feel his eyes burning a hole in the back of my head, but thankfully it wasn't menacing. I'm really good at rock, paper, scissors, so I won most of the games we played. We only stopped when we saw Gon. "Gon!" I stood up seeing him running towards the group with Kurapika.
"Bella! Killua!" Gon waved toward me, then ran over to Leorio. Hisoka came with Leorio in tow a little while ago.
"Gon. I can't believe you actually managed to find your way here."
"I just followed the trail of Leorio's cologne."
"His cologne? You could really smell it from so far away?" Gon nodded. That was a superhuman ability.
"Man Gon, you really are weird." Killua said.
"Excellent work, everyone." Mr. Satotz started speaking, stopping the conversation. "The second phase will take place here in the Visca Forest Reserve. So I shall now take my leave. I wish you all the best of luck."
"Bye Mr. Satotz!" I waved as I watched him walk away. The door blocking us from entering the reserve slowly opened and revealed the next two examiners. One phase down, only a few more to go. I thought in excitement, walking into the reserve.
A/N: The second chapter is finished. I'm thrilled with the direction this story is taking. Like all my stories, it has numerous potential endings, and I'm eager to discover where it will go. Please share your thoughts on it so far! Your comments are always a delight to read.
