Screaming, blood, crying, everything was blurring together in the dark as you ran. Ran towards salvation, or what they promised was salvation. Get to the police station, that's all you had to do. That's all anyone had to do. But they lied. It was only salvation for a few hours until all hell broke loose. You stuck close to Lieutenant Marvin Branagh, watching his back. You had survived the trek to this shit show. You'd survive the rest of it, too.
That was, until the Lieutenant got bit. All hope flew out the window as you sat in the main lobby of the police building in dismay. He was hurt, dying, turning into one of... them...
He was trying to get your attention, but you were too numb to hear anything until the loud clang. Looking up, you watch as Marvin slammed the garage like door on the head of one of the infected. You breathe shakily as the lieutenant and some man walk around the side of the desk.
"Sera, this is Leon. He came to help." Marvin grunts as he sits back on the couch in your little setup, clutching his side.
You study this young man, about your age, with floppy blonde hair and blue eyes. He looks like he couldn't kill a fly. "How are you alive?" You croak out. Marvin hands you some water, and you quickly drink.
"Barely arrived in town to all this...what happened?" He takes the police gear from Marvin, who had gotten it out of the storage box. You wear one of the bullet-proof vests, with some gloves, a holster, and pouches strapped to you.
"No idea. I was attacked in my home and barely survived getting here. All I know is that people are going crazy and eating others." You shiver and sit by Marvin. He pats your leg and winces.
"We've been barely holding out. Some of the men were looking for a way out, but they've been taken out one by one." You nod in confirmation.
"Wish I would've come sooner, but I was told to stay away for a bit..." Leon sighs as he finishes strapping on the elbow pads.
"Wouldn't have made a difference." You grumble as Marvin hands a notebook you didn't notice him holding before, back to Leon.
"Elliot thought that these secret passageways could get us out of here." You roll your eyes as Leon starts to fight with Marvin about getting him to a hospital. "I am not the priority rookie. You guys are!" He points to you and Leon. Both you and Marvin know there isn't any help for him. "I'm just going to slow you two down." He hands Leon a knife, his knife.
Sniffling, you quickly wipe the tears away. You ignore them as Marvin tells Leon not to hesitate in killing the... monsters. "Yes, sir." Leon nods solemnly, you stand up with a sigh.
Walking closer to Leon you hold out your hand, "Guess we're partners now...let's get the fuck out of here." Leon nods and clasps your hand.
"Right, do you know this police station?" Leon asks, getting down to business. Maybe he was capable. Nodding your head you point to the giant lion statue, "We already got the disc from that one, the other 2 are around, 1 is in the library, which is locked, and the other is up in the attic." You show him on the map you have of the station. "Brennagh went to find the key for the library when he got bit. I was looking in a different area. We were to meet back in the lobby, I should've just stayed with him." You close your eyes in regret.
Leon puts his hand on your shoulder, "Its OK. We know that sticking together is better, so let's stay together and stay alive." He gives you a reassuring look, and you actually feel better. Maybe this blonde boy could save you. Taking a fortifying breath, you nod and head over to a gated area, cutting open the panel you open it up.
"Let's start looking then." Leon nods to you, and he follows you through the door into the dark corridors of the station.
You try to avoid looking at the dead bodies that lay leaned against the walls and the reaching hands of creatures outside the barred windows. You watch Leon instead as he inspects a fallen officer with disgust on his face. He listens to the scratchy radio of the officers and turns to you, "sounds like a rescue."
You shrug, "I'm not getting my hopes up. They keep saying that." Turning you both look down the hallway as you hear a clatter. Leon grabs the pistol out of his holster. You take out your knife, you refused to use a gun. The last time you used one, let's just say, it wasn't good. Leon nods to you and goes first. You keep your back to his to make sure nothing sneaks up on you guys.
When the body that was attached to the hook falls, you jump slightly but keep moving. He won't move again. You guys cover some more windows with planks before going in through the doors to the operations room. "So, how's your night?" Leon asks into the quiet room.
Rolling your eyes, and with so much sarcasm dripping from your lips, you say, "OH so good, I'm having the best night ever!"
Leon's chuckle is such a honeyed sound that you actually feel a little lighter in this shit show of a night, "Right, so not great. Don't worry, we'll get out of here, I know it." Letting yourself smile slightly to the man you nod.
"Thanks, I am glad you showed up... I didn't know if I could keep going without Marvin..." You clear your throat before going through the broken window in the room, "Man, our barricades are a hindrance now."
Leon nods as he drops down beside you, "Yeah, probably were nice when you made them... but not so much anymore." You chuckle slightly and nod.
"Let's keep going. There should be a weaponry room up ahead. We can grab some more gear." Leon nods, and you two continue forward. Leon takes down a man jostling with a vending machine, and you make sure the other corpses are corpses. You go into the officers office first and stare at the welcome banner hung up. Glancing at Leon, he walks over and grabs a letter, and starts reading. It soon is crumpled into a ball as he stares at his desk.
"I'm sorry you didn't get to meet them." Leon nods to himself before walking around the desks and then back to his and unlocking it.
"We should keep moving." He clips something onto his handgun, and you follow after him.
