CLAUDETTE
Saturday, October 21st
2:00pm"Grandma look" Daynia points at the big teddy bear on display at the store.
I can't have money with her, Keyla or Mimi. Everything dem see dem waah.
Granny life.
Day's spending the weekend with Gary and I since her parents are working on their relationship and we've been having a blast.
"We're gonna find Gary first then come back to buy it, okay?" She nods as I lead her to the jewelry store at the end of the mall.
We enter and I immediately start searching for my husband. I find him at the checkout and Daynia lets go off my hand and races to him.
Sell out.
"Grandpa!" She squeals as he picks her up. He pays for whatever he bought and takes the bag, skillfully holding her in his free hand.
"Want anything , princess?" He asks her and she nods. "Take up what you want".
"I want a teddy, the big one" he looked at me confused.
"We passed a big teddy by the store at the opening and she had her eyes on it. Me tell her seh we aguh find yuh first but me honestly neva remember" he frowns.
"Lead grandpa to the store and we'll get it" he puts her down and she leads him there. I'm left behind but seeing their bond brightened my mood.
By the time I'm at the door, I see him holding it in one hand and holding her hand with the other. Alla dis a give me baby fever.
Put yuhself at risk cause yuh love man.
"Weh dat aguh guh?" Me just nuh waah dis tek me seat.
"Wherever she wants it" he grins. I neva see a man suh frighten fi pickney.
"Front seat" she tells him, signaling to the teddy bear.
"Sure princess" he straps it in and I fold my arms with a frown. I slam the door when I get in the back seat.
A cyaah one teddy tek yuh space.
Not to be dramatic or mean but I feel like returning this god forsaken bear to the store because I feel like it's gonna be a huge problem. He puts Daynia in the backseat beside me then gets in the driver seat. He pulls off and I rest my head on the window when he starts a conversation with Day about the spawn of Satan.
"So what are you going to name it?" He questions and I roll my eyes.
No mumz, yuh bitter eeh?
"I was thinking Charlie"...
"Charlie sound white" I murmur bitterly.
