~BROKEN PIECES OF A PUZZLE~

NEXT MORNING

The blaring alarm rudely interrupted my peaceful slumber, and I couldn't help but groan in annoyance.
Jieun, half-awake, mumbled under her breath, desperately trying to silence the incessant noise.

I reluctantly dragged myself out of bed and shut off the alarm with a sigh, amused by her feeble attempts to bury her face in the pillow.

I couldn't help but laugh.

"You're the one who set the alarm, baby. Time to wake up and get ready because we've got places to be," I said, hoping to motivate her.

She let out another groan and reluctantly suggested, "Why don't you go take a shower first and then wake me up?"

Smiling down at her still-sleepy face, I knew she was going to make a fuss about being late.

I wasn't exactly a morning person myself, but the realization that we were heading home today filled me with excitement that made it impossible to go back to sleep.

I quickly made my way to my own bathroom, grateful for the early morning light peeping through the windows.

It was still way too early. I checked my phone; it shows 5 a.m.

I completed my morning routine—brushing my teeth, showering, and donning the sweatshirt and joggers I had already prepared.

With a dollop of moisturizer on my face and the application of sunscreen to protect my skin, as a finishing touch, I swiped on a tinted lip balm, leaving my lips moisturized and plump.

Instead of eyeliner, I opted for just mascara to give my lashes a natural yet defined look.

Now, fully prepared and feeling confident, I was ready to take on the day with a subtle but captivating charm.

I returned to Jieun's room, only to find her darting past me towards the bathroom.

I couldn't help but chuckle, but her glare made my face straight.

"Tick-tock, my dear Jieun. The clock is ticking, and our departure time is nearing. Don't you just love the thrill of a last-minute rush? Get ready at your own leisurely pace, but don't forget, we're leaving in an hour. No pressure, of course."

I told her when she closed the door behind her.

I moved towards the window, pulling the curtains aside to welcome in the morning sunlight.

"Oh, my God, Ara. For God's sake, keep those bookish words to yourself."

I laughed at her irritating tone. She's always salty in the mornings, and I love teasing her during this time.
Plus, I can't get past her when it comes to sarcasm. Because, let's face it, she's a master at comebacks.

She's just too good.

"And why didn't you wake me up, bro?" She called out from the confines of the bathroom.

"I tried," I replied with a chuckle. "Maybe I should kick you out of bed next time."

She grumbled in response.

"Ah! Where's my shampoo?" She shouted.

I quickly informed her, "It's in the cabinet."

"Okay. Have breakfast and pack something for me, will you?" She instructed, her voice echoing from within.

"Sure thing. Just hurry up," I replied amiably.

"Just go," she snapped, prompting laughter to bubble up in my chest as I left her room, heading off to fulfill her requests.
