She went offline, I couldn't help let out a small chuckle. I know I shouldn't text her; it makes no sense to do that, but she'd been running through my mind for past three days.
I frowned to myself, if anyone misinterprets me texting Isabella, it could be problematic. I don't have to imagine what would Matteo think, but we're not doing anything, not my fault I can't get her dark red hair and that citrusy scent of hers, out of my mind. I was half tempted to tell her this, maybe knowing that she too has disturbed my sleep like I did hers would satisfy her. Though she probably has nightmares not dreams.
I am fucking fool, what hell was wrong with me. She is the last person I should be thinking about this way. I tried stopping myself from asking Greta for Isabella's number. I had to make an excuse that I left something with her, which isn't exactly a lie, I did leave my dagger there.
It didn't take much convincing for Greta to give it to me. She would've been wary if Nevio asked for something like this, Nevio cannot generally be trusted with people who are not family, but no one expects me to do something this stupid. I really hope Greta doesn't tell Amo about this. I guess she can keep one secret for me, I didn't tell anyone about Amo when I found him with her either, she kind of owes me here. Both of them do.
"Who are you talking to?" Massimo said, reminding me the fact that he was still here. He is bored and because I refused to let him torture Leo for information right that second, he is set on annoying me.
"Some girl," he doesn't need to know I texted Isabella and will probably do it again, he'll try to shake some sense into me if he knew that. As he should.
"That redhead from the bar last night?" He said, not looking up from his kindle while he was seated across me on the bed.
"Yeah."
He nodded then sighed, lowering his kindle then gave me an exasperated look. I interrupted him before he could speak, "We're not discussing that again, I will not torture Leo yet, just because you can't sleep knowing the fact that he'll live few extra days."
"It just seems like an unnecessary risk, we could just ask him and all will be done, he could stop another delivery or something."
I rolled my eyes at him, "The next delivery is like a month ahead, you're overreacting."
"I am just being cautious. And is it really okay to trust Max with this, how are we sure he isn't involved if they're meeting in The Sugar Trap?"
"Even if he is, he isn't only one who is going to tell me about them." Massimo raised his eyebrow in question. "Maya will inform us if they arrive, and she will do that for money."
Maya wasn't working as a whore anymore because she decided to keep that baby, but she can't really go to work normal places yet. After working here, you kinda build a reputation, and most normal people are reluctant to hire someone with her background. She was young, only been working with us for a year, she could even find a job at normal places if she tried, though it'll be tough. For now, she is helping Max in the bar till she gets a job in any of our restaurant or somewhere else. But that doesn't pay as well as her previous job did and considering she had a kid coming, she needed this money desperately, I know she'd do anything for it right now, she won't betray.
He sighed, "This better be worth it."
"It's just been two days, chill." Massimo was generally quite patient but if it involved a potential threat, he liked to end them as soon as possible. He wouldn't mind killing people only out of suspicion, a kill merely out of doubt is just an avoided threat in his eyes. His vigilance was admirable, helpful even, but sometimes it prevented him from foreseeing the future. Sometimes people needed to be alive to be more of use.
