"Higher Katara!" She raised the water above her head, freezing the water in place when she couldn't go any higher, creating a tall mountain of ice sloping down. Soon the squeals and excitement of the village children surrounded her and the ice sculpture she had just crafted.
"It's perfect!" Sokka jumped up from his chiseled ice stool. "I'm going up! We have to make sure it's safe for the kids, obviously ." He started his way up the solid stairs of ice. He settled himself in the dip, sitting comfortably and looking down.
"I can see the other end of the village up here, you have to try this Katara!" Sokka slid down the slippery ice, the water quickening his pace as he slid off of the upward end. He hovered in the air, gravity soon plummeting him into a snow hill. The kids began making their way up the same path, one by one plummeting into the same snow. The snow muffled their giggles for only a moment as their heads popped out one by one, like Mere-Monkey's. As quickly as they had surfaced, they were returning to the structure once more, sliding down and continuing the cycle.
Katara headed away, going into her igloo and sitting on the piles of quilted clothes, making herself comfortable she pulled out her first water bending scroll, the scroll that taught her the base of everything she uses today. Unrolling it, other papers begin to unravel as well, she held them close to her chest for a moment before setting the scroll to the side and pulling through the papers. Various bird mail from Zuko and Aang. She was starting to miss the feeling of helping others and changing the world, she truly believes that was her calling, her place in life.
She looked through Aang's last letter. It let her and Sokka know that he was on his way to the Earth Kingdom Colonies to track down any Air benders that may be taking shelter. While the war was over, there was still hate between the nations, though most people are starting to adjust to this new world order. It had been the same for over 100 years, Its hard to imagine a better bounce back. He had invited us, said he would be waiting in Kan-Hi until the turn of the season. If my prediction's are correct, that would be in the summer, the 4 year anniversary of the war being over.
"Katara, its mellltiiing" The whining from outside her igloo grew louder as the crunch of snow became prevalent as well.
"I'll be right out Omer." Katara sighed to herself, set aside the scroll and notes aside, and headed out of the igloo. She outstretched her arms, being cautions that no kids where on the slide, then refroze it, keeping the height the same.
The sound of yip's and yay's rang out as they began the same climbing, sliding, and plummeting cycle. She smiled with satisfaction and headed over to Sokka.
"Can I see you in my igloo?" She asked him. He nodded and followed her back to where she had been not long ago. "So do you remember the last letter from Aang?" Sokka audibly sighed.
"Katara, we have responsibilities here, we can't just up and leave for a wild DuckGoose chase.
"But, I feel like we need to go to Kan-Hi, I have a feeling we are needed." Sokka scoffed.
"of course, we're needed" His mocking tone sent anger through Katara's vains.
"We are more needed helping the world than we are here making slides for the village kids..." As soon as the words left her mouth, she knew she had messed up. While what she had said was true, it was also quite undermining to Sokka's new position in the village.
"Some of us have people to take care of." He sighed and looked away. "I miss him too Katara, I miss the feeling of helping the world just as much as you, but this Village is our responsibility. Dad has been sick for too long, we are all they have left." Katara's eyes started to water, her body lost its strength for just a moment, long enough to sit down and let her emotions take over. She held her head in her hands, taking a deep breath.
