You stepped out of the carriage with help from the footman, having to grab onto his hand and your dress to keep yourself from falling face first into the gravel. The group made their way into the residence alongside a flood of other well dressed party goers, though you would say it was only you who was taken aback by the sheer opulence of the foyer alone.
It was as if everything glistened and sparkled to catch your eye and drop your jaw. The chandelier dripped light down in diamonds, shifting specks of rainbow around the room with every tiny sway caused by the crossbreeze. Even the champagne glistened in its flutes as servers brought them around the rooms.
You felt a hand at your back used to usher you forward, Sebastian's of course, "My lady, we have a job to do. There is no time to admire the finery."
You nodded and fiddled mindlessly with the hem of your gloves, "Right, yes, sorry." Whilst you had agreed to this whole charade, you still were not sure what the point of it was. You yourself knew who the actual culprits of the murders were but even having told Sebastian you were still entering the party with said culprits. As much as you had tried, you still could not convince the demon that the best course of action was one that would spare the young earl not only time but emotional turmoil.
"Sister, I do hope you remember our plan of action for this party," the boy to your side spoke up. Ciel was wearing a disguise more fitting than a frilly pink dress and pigtails. Madam red had managed to procure a wig in a colour similar to your own hair, though that was surely not enough to convince people you were siblings. Settling for adoptive siblings was a much easier lie to fit into. As for his eye, a bit of makeup had been used to make that portion of his face look burned, as though a damaging scar had taken his sight. He just had to keep his eye closed at all times, his commitment to it in the carriage ride was impressive enough.
"Of course I remember," you hesitated to call him by something familial given the true nature of your relationship, "brother..."
He sighed and tapped his cane, "You are going to need to do better if you wish to convince people of our relation." With that he took the lead of the party, ushering everyone to a somewhat quiet corner of the main room.
You spoke amongst yourselves while facing the commotion of the hall, discussing everyone's roles for the night. You only half paid attention, instead scanning the room to see if you could catch a glimpse of either lady Elizabeth or the Viscount. The two biggest problems of the night.
It wasn't long before your eyes caught on the man of the hour, the Viscount of Druitt, surrounded by floundering women and uncomfortable men. You could almost hear him from where you stood at the opposite end of the room, he was quite loud.
As you expected, he was gorgeous in a generic sense. His hair was like long spun silk and glittered almost as much as the chandelier in the foyer, like dewdrops had fallen upon his head. His attire was stark white though the small pop of colour from the bright red jewel in his lacey jabot was visible even at a distance.
The madam, Grell and Lau made their way into the heart of the party, each giving you a small thumbs up. You hoped you were ready to perform your role.
"So, how am I getting his attention exactly?" You asked the man and boy beside you.
Ciel tapped his cane again, you discerned that it may have been a habit, and Sebastian stepped out to stand before you with his hand offered, "If I may?" He asked with a slight bow that made the chain attached to his glasses dangle.
You looked to Ciel who shooed you off with the wave of his hand, "Go. If anyone knows how to make a scene to get attention it's him." You had to agree with that.
