The next week, I walked in to check up on Melissa, just to see if she needed any new scans.
I found her to be in an outfit much like Hatsume, covered in grease and looking sleep deprived, but also excited and working on a lug nut at the top of large machine roughly the size of a semi truck trailer along the back of the room.
"Melissa? I assume you figured out how to do something?" I call up when I got to the base.
"Wha- Midoriya! Perfect timing! I was just about to call you, this is my prototype unit of Chronon Condensing Fuel Pump" She slid off the top and I noticed she had a jacket tied around her waist covered in grease. "Over here"
I followed her over towards the front, ducking a few pipes and drums.
There was a glass cylinder I hadn't noticed heavily contained and definitely bullet proof here was two arms with handles and a big red button on the wall.
"This model is mean to siphon the Chronon energy from 'Sources', which you are one of. This entire machine will dilute and add other energies to stabilise the energy you produce since I've estimated it to be pure Chronon Particles you produce. Now I'm not exactly sure how it'll feel, if it hurts or if it'll kill you, which is what that button in there is for, it's a kill button that'll stop the drain the moment you feel pain or grow too tired"
"Pain? Melissa I used to break my arms with every punch, and broke my fingers willingly to help my friend through mental trauma. Your machine couldn't match that. Tell me what to do"
Ok well, when you enter disinfectant will flood the chamber and the regular air removed to be replaced with pure oxygen. So you'll need to use an air tank and mask. Grab the handles and bring your energy up to your hands" She walked off and came back with a large pair of metal tanks and a plastic mask.
I put it on and smirked.
"You know what this means if it works right?" I ask.
"Green energy. Infinite energy"
"And the energy that could throw humanity to the stars. If it works Melissa this will revolutionise mankind forever"
"And it's thanks to you Midoriya"
"Us Melissa, you're contributing just as much as I have... And by now I think you should call me Izuku"
Not bothering to hear her reply I walked towards the chamber, it opened as I approached and closed behind me.
I pull the mask on, hearing the hiss as disinfectant spray filled the air. Then the air vanished.
It felt odd to be in a vacuum but I was unaffected as my Quirk reversed the ballooning I should feel before it stopped.
Feeling the metal in my hands warming I nod to Melissa, who had moved to a console.
She hit a button just as I began charging up Chronon Energy in my hands, only to feel it being sucked out of me just as fast.
It was a strange sensation, like a vacuum almost.
I stop thinking about the feeling and focus on my energy levels, staring blankly as the ball shattered and repaired faster and faster to meet demand.
Then I notice Eri's ball shining, it must be assisting somewhat.
I should experiment with that.
The drain continued for a while, I didn't bother counting and opened my eyes when the drain stopped.
I looked up at Melissa who pressed a button to open the chamber.
"Eri's energy seemed to accelerate my production rate slightly, just enough to keep up. Though I don't think anyone else would be capable of being in this machine of yours, they either manipulate the existing energy or have solidified stockpiles like Eri has her little horn. But it did feel like a vacuum in my arms so... 7/10 on the uncomfortable scale?"
