The Council

Back in space, at the G.H.O.S.T. Space Station, a man in all black walked through a gray hallway. He proceeded into a large room. The room was filled with monitors.

"Good," he said. "They didn't screw this up." The man turned around to see the council sitting behind him.

"They almost did," a council member said. "But they stopped them, and they did it by themselves." He pointed at the monitors. "The prison is down." The man said.

"The guards were all saved, and the witnesses are all alive."

"They're in a hospital," Klaus Borin said as he entered the room. "The Elites got them all out of there. They saved their lives when you couldn't even save them out of your due diligence as master of mystic arts in that department."

"I'm simply the protector," the man said. "I've expected the prison to fail."

"We knew this was coming," another council member said. "I'm impressed you're not glum about it."

"Yeah, well," he said. "Not everyone failed, I still have my Shadows and the Elite team intact."

"We're getting reports that the Knight is still at large," another council member said.

"That's correct," the man said. "He was reported captured on the black site, in the Metar system." He said. "Now he's blowing up prison sites, and he's still running around."

"You let this happen," Klaus said. "You failed to stop the Knight's plans to retrieve Anitta Von Ross."

"Hey," the man said. "You people of any in this organization should know to expect a more powerful individual in this line of work." The man said.

"Yes, that is true," another council member said. "But, we were already working on our plans."

"We're not even sure if he's still alive."

"The reports are contradictory," the man said. "Grim was possibly the only one who could stop him. Some say he's dead, some say he's back."

"No matter what, G.H.O.S.T. and Earth must be defended."

"I have an idea," the man said. "If we cannot stop the Vaknar, then we should destroy them."

"Destroy them?"

"Yeah," the man said. "If we can't stop Shane, then we simply stop half of their progress. Snuff them out."

"They'll be back," another council member said. "They'll be back, no matter what we throw at them, these 'Vaknar', they're ruthless, cunning, they know everything about us."

"Shane is dishing out info records and with only a handful of the original Elites, it's doubtful we can take them on," Klaus said. "So why not bring Atlas on this, why me?"

"Because you're the one who can get it done less...apocalyptically," Klaus said. "I want to end this 'war' as soon as possible before it puts innocents at risk."

The man laughed. "Of course you do, but what we need to focus on now is surviving."

"Surviving?"

"Yeah, you've seen what they've done to the Elites, hell even to that kid Maven, the Knight and Shane will be back, they won't give up easily, so neither will we."

"So what exactly should I do?"

The man smiled. "Well, since you're here, I'll need access to Grim's Necroroom."

"Yeah, right, but I'm sure that'll work..."

"Oh, but I think it will because you and I both know that these Vaknar are nothing compared to the old regime soldiers Marsa had, and they have Shane."

"You know the dire consequences of someone without Grim's skill using the room, don't you? There are other ways we can finish this."

"I guess you're right," the man said, turning around to face Klaus. "But I don't care if I survive or die, as long as we stop these Vaknar from ever returning, can't be the L'un that let the world burn."

"Good. Now let's go make sure that happens."
