It was close to midnight when the trio arrived at RiverSide Village. It was a new moon and no fires were burning, so it made it pitch black. As Levina settled in the square of the small town or at least what they thought was the small town. Sylva jumped down first, she was dizzy for a moment, as was her first time riding a dragon, but quickly got over it. She quickly scouted the area. Ethan jumped down next to her.

"Anything?" He whispered to her, but she shook her head.

"Too dark to see. But I don't think we should start a fire to check. We'll just have to do shifts," Sylva whispered back.

They both glanced up at the Princess to see she was looking at them expectantly.

"Well, anything?" She asked almost in a shout. Ethan shook his head, while Sylva told her to be quiet. Dahlia did as she was told.

"I wonder what they are whispering about?" Levina asked the strawberry blonde girl.

Dahlia rolled her eyes as she tried to find her guards, but to no avail. Finally, Ethan and Sylva made their way back to Dahlia.
"We should just stay around Levina tonight. No fire. Dahlia, you can sleep under Levina's wing," Ethan stated.

Dahlia was about to argue that she wasn't tired, but Ethan glared at her and she fell silent. She couldn't see him glaring, but she knew he was.

Sylva quickly gave another scan across the village, but her eyes were not yet used to the darkness. Of course, their eyes will never be accustomed to the darkness tonight. In the Kingdom of Ansone, when it's a new moon you can only see as far as your hand. Which isn't very far when your hand has to be 5 inches from your face.

"Stay here, I'll be right back," Ethan said, while slowly making his way forward. As he felt his way forward, he noticed that the ground was covered in cool figures. Presumably animals, hopefully, or a bunch of big rocks. He then found a stone wall. He moved his hands along the cool features of the stone, the stone was moist. Water. He dipped his hands into the cool liquid, lifting his cupped hands to his face. Ethan smelled the substance to be sure, then took a sip of the water.

"Ethan?" Sylva called out.

He turned to look toward where Sylva should be.

"I found a well, but I think it will be best to wait it out till morning," Ethan replied as he carefully made his way back to the group.

"Yeah, Dahlia's already asleep," Sylva grinned. Dahlia hated to be wrong, and Sylva was going to have a fun time humiliating her in the morning. "How about you take the first shift."

He nodded, then remembered she couldn't see him.

"Yeah, I'll take the shift for a while. Then I'll wake you up," Ethan answered her, as he rummaged through Levina's pack.

That would give her about 3 hours of sleep. Ethan heard her shift around, probably to make herself more comfortable.

He pulled out some jerky and gave Sylva some. She nodded her thanks as they ate in silence.

"Okay, thanks. But don't cheat me out of my shift. I know how you get," Sylva said, then, after shifting her position a bit, she went quiet.

Ethan sighed. That was one time, he thought.

During one of Ethan and Sylva's training sessions, they were supposed to take shifts but Ethan ended up letting her sleep the whole night. Leaving him exhausted for the mile run back up the cliff entrance. The sergeant chewed him out about it and made him run extra. Sylva's never heard him grumble so much in one day.

Her soft breathing soon blended in with the Princess. The Princess Guard was trained to align their breath with anyone who was near them so that any attacker will only hear one person. With the fact that there is always at least one or two Princess Guards near her at a time if they were camped out like this. This was a highly guarded secret, so any attackers would be unprepared.

Ethan slowly made his way about a meter away from where the girls were sleeping. As he reached his hand out in front of him, he soon felt bark against his fingertips. Ethan then leaned against the tree, and then not even a minute later all was silent. Ethan had slowed down his breathing to where it was almost inaudible, you could only hear it if you concentrated on the spot he was sitting. Then after he handled his breathing, Ethan went still. Like a statue. During the night, even though it was pitch black you could still sense movement. That was why the Princess Guard was trained to be dead still so that no one could see them during the night. It also helped that their uniform blended in with the background.

This is going to be a long night, he thought.

As he settled down in a comfortable position.
