"Stupid Princess. Stupid Farmer," The Noble muttered as he trudged through the snow.
The wind blew as the Noble pulled his coat over his neck. After the incident with the Princess the Noble was overcome with shame and embarrassment. The reason he was arguing with the Farmer for land was that he wanted to prove to his father that he was worthy to inherit his father's land. But instead, his father laughed at him, and gave his younger brother all the land and goods. Now Anwir was trudging through 2 feet of snow up Dragtina Mountain.
Anwir was freezing and all he had was a small provision of dried fish and bread that he managed to grab from the kitchen. As far as he could see there were trees and snow. No one lived on Dragtina Mountain because it was so far away from safety, the only village nearby was RiverSide Village which was on the other side of the mountain on the outskirts of the Ansone borders. That was where Anwir was heading, the only place where none of his family lived.
"The sun's setting, maybe 4 hours left of daylight?" The Noble inquired, he had never taken any classes for time though.
As he pushed on, daylight was gone in a matter of minutes. Anwir froze when he realized this, he should've looked for shelter while he could. Besides the cold, the only other reason why people didn't live on this mountain was because of how it got its name. Dragtina mountain. Dragtinas lived on this mountain. Dragtinas were beasts that had the looks of a hyena, but the size of a grown bear. It stood upright on its back paws and had scaly wings on its back that had a 16-foot wingspan. Rumor has it that the wings could cut trees as they flew and that they flew faster than light. People say there has got to be at least 2700 of them. No one wanted to make sure that was correct.
Suddenly there was an ear-shattering roar, the Noble dropped his bag and covered his ears. His eyes were full of terror, he couldn't uncover his ears in the fear that the roar would sound again. For the first time, he was right. Another roar sounded through the air coming from his left this time. That was when Anwir saw it, saw what was making the sound. It was two Dragtinas, they had found him and were about to have dinner.
The Dragtinas made their way toward the frightened man, but before they could reach their prey a piercing whistle made its way through the air.
Along with a voice yelling, "Leave him alone! You beasts!"
The Dragtinas looked at each other before storming off in the other direction.
The Noble turned to look at his rescuer. The man was dressed in white if he hadn't said anything you wouldn't be able to see him. As the man got closer Anwir could see his dark skin, his face was covered by a white scarf, and his eyes only just showed his skin. The man's brown eyes seemed to be doing a silent interrogation, looking the Noble up and down. He seemed to be about 6 feet.
"W-Who are y-you?" Anwir questioned, scared for his life.
If he can control Dragtinas. What chance do I have? He thought, looking fearfully at the stranger.
The man was still for a moment, seeming to be in deep thought.
"My name is Kalabhiti. I know names always have a meaning. So mind telling me yours?" Kalabhiti inquired.
Anwir, wide-eyed and shocked, stuttered, "A-A-Anwir, sir. I-It m-means li-liar."
Kalabhiti's eyes glistened with amusement.
"Anwir then? Would you mind telling me what you are doing here?" He asked, spreading his arms out as he turned in a circle.
Anwir didn't think anything of the stranger, so he told him his story. Kalabhiti listened and didn't interrupt. When Anwir finished his story with "I want to prove my worth," Kalabhiti's eyes gleamed even brighter.
"You want revenge. Am I correct?" He stated.
Anwir turned to look at him.
"Not exactly. I just want to prove my worth. I just said that," Anwir stated.
"It's a yes or no question. Do you want revenge?" Kalabhiti asked, walking over to the Noble until Anwir could feel his breath, it was cold.
Anwir took a step back before saying, "I-I'm not sure what you mean?"
"Don't you want to prove yourself? The only way you can is to take revenge. The Princess made a fool out of you. If you take out the Princess you are sure to be worthy to your father. I mean think about it," Kalabhiti said while hooking an arm around his shoulder, "you could have all the wealth in the Ansone Kingdom if you took out the Princess. The King would be terrified of you, no one has defeated the dragon who guards her."
That sentence snapped Anwir out of it.
"No one? Then what makes you think I have a chance?!" Anwir asked, stepping back from the man's reach.
"I do. I can make anything happen. I have faced Death many times! Do you think a dragon will stop me? I can do whatever I want, and no one can stop me. I have made Kings bow before me, and I have tamed the Dragtinas."
Kalabhiti's eyes were wide open and had a crazy glint to them. If only Anwir had seen it.
"You think so?" He asked, taking a hesitant step towards the man in white.
"I know so," Kalabhiti replied. "All you have to do is trust me," Kalabhiti reached up and pulled down his hood.
He had dark red hair almost black that was done in a crew cut.
Kalabhiti reached out his hand, "Do you trust me?"
At that moment when Anwir looked into his eyes a wave of terror and dizziness appeared, but reluctantly he took his hand and shook it.
The deal was made. No going back now, Anwir thought as he followed Kalabhiti deeper into the woods.
That was when the thought hit him.
"What does your name mean?" Anwir asked, as the man stopped and looked at him.
"My name? 'Of whom Death is afraid'," Kalabhiti replied as an evil grin spread across his face.
