Chapter Four
After a day of rest and recuperation, I head back to school. Nobody bothers me as I walk to my locker. Dan comes to talk and asks if I am alright. I tell him I am fine and just needed some space.

"Would you like to attend a basketball game with me Friday night, Mary."

"I'd like that, Dan. Do you want me to meet you here?"

"No, I'll come and pick you up on my two seater snow mobile."

"Do you want me to write down the address?"

    "No, I'll find it."

"How will you find it without an address?"

"I have my ways, don't worry. I'll pick you up about six thirty."

    "Ok, if you say so."

"I do, catch you later, Mary."

So I went on to class. The dinner bell rang so I got in line to get something to eat. There's a male classmate standing behind me. He's a tall blonde guy with a nice smile. So I say, hi.

"Hi, my name's Brian and you are Mary right?"

"Yes, I'm Mary, have you heard something about me?"

"I heard you were getting friendly with Dan.Going to the game with him Friday night."

"Wow, word gets around fast around here."

"Well, Dan is a popular subject for conversation."

    "Oh ya, why is that?"

"He pretty much keeps to himself and he's been seen frequently talking to himself."

"Really, maybe no one else will listen?"

"No, I think there's a few things about Dan that are strange."

    "Oh really, like what?"

"Like the fact that he is seen frequently going into the forest but never seen coming back out."

"Maybe he just loves nature and knows some trails to use to get back home."

"That's the other thing, nobody has ever actually seen his home."

"Anyway, I just thought you should know."

"Well thank you, Brian, I'll keep that in mind."

"Also, any girl who has ever went out with him, never went out with him again. Apparently he is too bossy and controlling. To the point where the girls feel very uncomfortable around him. He's too quiet and too strange."

I got my lunch and found a table to sit down and contemplate what Brian had told me. Dan comes over and asks if he can sit across from me. I say, sure, and he sits down, never taking his eyes off of mine. I have to be honest; it was a bit uncomfortable.

"So, I saw you talking to Brian, you two weren't talking about me were you?"

I don't know what to say. Looking into those eyes makes me afraid to lie. I feel like he can see right through me. So I just laugh it off like, Why would we be talking about you?"

He continues staring deeply into my eyes without blinking.

"Do I make you nervous, Mary?"

    "A little, I guess."

"You were talking about me, Mary, I was just waiting for you to be honest with me."

"Oh, it was just casual conversation, nothing important."
