Chapter Thirty
Spring Break was nearly over. Rose never called. I'd done enough crying. It was time to talk to Bill. Time to move on with my life. Time to figure out what to do. I needed a friend, a daddy and a big brother; I needed Bill.

I made us a special dinner tonight and told Bill that, after dinner; I would tell him everything.

We ate in silence. Bill kept looking at me expectantly. I was trying to get the courage to begin. Where do I begin?

After dinner we did the dishes together in silence.
"Bill, can we just put on our night clothes and cuddle in the bed tonight? What I have to tell you will take a while and probably shock the shit out of you. But I need you close beside me to give me the courage to tell you the truth about so many things. And I need you to help me figure out what to do about this baby I'm carrying."

"Mary, I will marry you and give your baby a name and a father. You don't have to worry about that ok?"

"Oh Bill, if only it were that simple."

"Why can't it be that simple, Mary. You and I make a great couple. We love and respect one another. That baby could do a lot worse."

"Bill, you have become my best friend in the whole world. I trust you and I believe in you. But what I'm going to tell you will shake you to your very core."

"Ok, well; let's get our night clothes on then and the four of us can all cuddle together in your big brass bed."

So we got our night clothes on, added some logs to the fire and cuddled together with Sammy and Jake.

"Ok, Mary, whenever your ready to talk, I'm ready to listen. Here lay your head on my chest. That way you don't have to see my face when I here what you think will shock the shit out of me."

"Ok, where to begin? I met Dan at school. I was getting picked on rather badly and he was kind to me. Eventually, we started dating. I'm skipping over some important things here. I will bring them together in the end." Anyway, there was a boy at school who was sexually harassing me badly. He had me a complete nervous wreck."

"I assume you mean Joey Depitro, am I right?"

"Yes, Bill, you are right. So, anyway, and this is a strange part so please bear with me, ok?"

"Ok, Mary, I am bearing with you."

"Ok, so after school I am so upset I ride my snow mobile deep into the forest. I hit a stump or a rock or something. Anyway, it throws me over the handlebars and I hit my head on a rock and black out. So I wake up in a cute little house, which, upon further inspection, turns out to be a tree house. I try to leave but a big, white woof is blocking my way. At first I was terrified but then I realized that the woof meant me no harm. So I just started talking to the woof and he seemed to be listening. Eventually I laid down on the floor and the wolf laid down beside me. He put his arm around me and held me close just letting me talk. So I did. I talked and talked and talked until I fell asleep. In the morning the woof was gone and I drove home, skipping school all together."

"Hm, interesting story. Sounds like a fairy tale."

"It's no fairy tale, Bill. It happened. So anyway, this wolf started coming by to visit me and the boys. He'd jump the fence and enter through the doggy door. It gave me someone to talk to, and I told that woof everything Bill, and I mean everything. You see, Joey was blackmailing me into doing sexual favors for him. He said if I did not comply his mafia family would kill my boyfriend, Dan and both of my dogs. Anyway, he made me do everything. He brutally took my virginity, fucked every one of my orifices and brutally beat me with his belt."

"Oh my God, Mary!" I can't believe you went through that!"

"Well, anyway, one day Mr. Woof came to see me and spent the night. Per usual, I told him everything and even showed him my blistered backside from being beaten with Joey's belt. But instead of staying and lying beside me for comfort. He barreled out of the doggy door, across the yard and jumped the fence. I didn't think too much about it until the next day when people were talking about Joey being found dead with his dick bit off and his throat ripped out."

"So, let me get this straight; you think the woof did that to protect you?"

    "I know he did, Bill."

"Mary, it's a woof; they're not that smart, ok?"

    "Well, here's the crazy part."

"Oh, crazier than believing some woof listens and understands everything you say?"

    "Yes, Bill, crazier than that."

    "Oh I gotta hear this!"

"Ok so, in the mean time; Dan and I have become very close, lovers actually. We were in love and planned to get married some day. So in an act of trust and passion he began to hint that he may be a woof man."

"A woof man? You're right, Mary, you have lost your mind completely."

"No Bill, I have not. I finally came right out and asked Dan if he killed Joey. He said, yes. Don't you get it? I am carrying a woof man's baby. Obviously, I can't keep it! What happens when one day it changes into a woof? People will kill it, Bill. The baby needs to be with it's people. But I don't know where they are! What should I do, Bill?"

"Wow, Mary, this Dan fella had a pretty good thing going on. All he had to do is change into a woof and you spill your guts to him. Do you know how many men would like to have a deal like that? No more wondering, Does she like me? Does she wanna fuck me? Just change into a woof and find out." Do you know how crazy you sound!"

"Yes Bill, I do, but I'm trusting you to believe me. We've been living together since the start of the year. Do I seem normal to you?"

"Well you did until you told me all of this. So why do you think Dan left and never came back? And who is Rose?"

"Rose is Dan's sister. He said he was going home for Christmas and that he would return New Year's Eve. That's all I know. I thought when Rose called she was taking me to him. But she never called back. He doesn't even know I'm pregnant, Bill."

"Mary, I need time to take this all in. You are right, this is quite a shock and totally hard to believe. But I didn't say I don't believe you either. Let's just sit back, watch some TV and I will try to figure out what the heck to do. How were you going to meet Rose anyway?"

"Apparently Dan's father owns his own plane and makes a living bring goods and people in and out of the isolated areas of Alaska. That's what Dan told me, anyway."

"I see, I don't imagine he cares too much for me coming in here putting in a highway?"

    "Probably not."
