It was a warm afternoon in Inkopolis and somewhere in the anomalous regions of Octo Canyon, a lone hut was sat on top of a floating island. A wooden cabin, home to a repurposed gramophone, a rusting telephone, a pet of unknown nature and a pair of cousins. Callie was sat down on the floor, holding and playing with a plush toy with her back against a small, one person bed. She felt out the toy's details and textures, running her finger over plastic buttons and soft felt. Sighing to herself, she set the toy down, somewhat bored.
"Hey, Marie?" she asked, turning around to her cousin, "When do you think Grandpa will be coming back?"
"No idea, Cal," Marie replied back bluntly, "Last I've heard of him, he was checking out that old military outpost on Mount Nantai with Agent Three."
"You mean the one that belonged to the Alliance forces during the Civil War?" she inquired, "Because that place has not been touched for decades. Not by Inklings, nor by Octarians. So surely nothing is there, right?"
"Unless the guys there want us to think exactly that," Marie faced her cousin with a tired look, "We will just have to wait for contact. As simple as that."
"Hmph..." Callie looked at the crack between two curtains separating them from the outside, "Speaking of contact, when do you think Four will return? Why did he go out at all?"
"Oh, I sent him out," Marie turned back to her magazine, "We ought to find more sunken scrolls. They contain banks of untapped knowledge, secrets to humanity and to_"
"And to ourselves, yadda, yadda, I've heard it all before," Callie interrupted, "I am just bored out of my mind, doing nothing whatsoever. Well, what have you been doing this past year? Aside from rescuing me."
"Oh, the Cephalonian Armed Forces have initiated a program to incorporate younger recruits into our more senior positions," Marie set down her magazine, "Namely, the Agent Corps needs some more members."
"We getting anybody new?"
"Two. We believe we have two potential recruits to join our ranks."
"Nice,"
As if on cue, the sound of an object shooting through the air came into earshot. Once quiet, the noise got gradually louder as the object came closer to the surface. A loud thud emanated from outside the cabin, lightly shaking the place. Peering outside, Callie saw a male Inkling standing outside of the cabin. He wore a HERO Suit Mk. 2 and brandished a HERO-SHOT Mk. 2. A glass inktank was slung onto his back, softly dangling from the recent landing.
Recovering his breath, the Agent looked up, then back down to the roll of paper grasped in his hands. The paper felt frail, having been rotting away from years of neglect. Sighing to himself, he placed the roll of paper into a cardboard box placed outside of the cabin and walked over to a dusty couch haphazardly placed in front of an old CRT. He slid off the inktank slung onto him and placed it next to the couch, perching his weapon against it as well.
He dropped down onto the chair, taking in a deep breath. They slipped their headset off of their ears, gently tossing it aside to caress his ears gently. A few seconds later, Callie peered out of the cabin, spotting the Agent on the couch. With a smile newly planted onto her face, she ran towards the tired Agent, wrapping her hands around his arms and chest, prompting little to no physical or auditory response,
"Heya, Four!" Callie greeted with her trademark joyfulness,
"Sup," Four slowly turned his head over to the Inkling that had her arms tightly wrapped around him,
