when it was good, we were on fire
now I'm breathing ashes and dust;
"I don't think that's the right plant."
Jungkook glared up at Taehyung from his squatted position, annoyed that he's looming over him. "It looks exactly like the picture."
Taehyung holds up his paper once more to examine it, lips turned down in a frown. "If you say so," he mutters with a shake of his head.
Dusting off his pants, Jungkook rises to his full height, snatching the page to look it over again. "They both have the pointy leaves."
"But this one has white flowers popping off of it." Taehyung points to the bush Jungkook was just squatting in front of and then the paper in his hand. "These do not."
Jungkook knows Taehyung is right and that pisses him off. "Let's just keep looking."
If someone had told Jungkook months ago he would be standing here wandering around the grounds after classes were over doing homework with Taehyung, he'd have called them crazy. No way in hell would he be caught dead doing anything with Taehyung. But, of course, the universe hates him, and here they are.
Stupid science class, stupid teacher.
Jungkook is trying his best not to talk to Taehyung, only offering him the barest grunt whenever he spots a plant or flower on their list. Taehyung's not trying to talk to him about anything other than the project and Jungkook's glad, but also irritated. Like, was it too much for him to ask how Jungkook has been doing? he won't answer, but he still wants Taehyung to care. Even after all this time. So stupid!
Jungkook pushes his thoughts away, needing to focus on his work.
Twenty minutes later, he's about ready to call it quits. It's hot, the company sucks, and he's getting eaten by mosquitoes.
"Listen, I'll just finish this over the weekend, alright? I know you probably have soccer or whatever, so it's fine." Jungkook's so ready to be out of his presence that he's willing to slap Taehyung's name on work he didn't even do for the sake of his own sanity.
But, of course, when Taehyung opens his mouth, the happy bubble Jungkook was wrapping himself in pops.
"Actually, I'm free tomorrow. I can help you finish this then."
Damn it. I don't want to work with you. Why can't you just go away?
"Oh, well... I'm sure you have other things you would rather be doing." Jungkook gives him a shrug, hoping Taehyung will just accept his offer and be done with this. Jungkook can't handle much more of him today. "It's fine. I'll just do it."
Taehyung smirks, eyeing Jungkook with amusement. "Are you trying to get rid of me?"
That's one way of putting it. "Yes," Jungkook answers truthfully, not caring how it makes him sound. They weren't friends and hurting Taehyung's feelings was the last of his worry list at the moment.
