for the next couple of weeks, things were normal. chad and carter got along fairly well, but there was still some awkwardness between them. it felt like neither of them fully trusted the other yet, but carter didn't mind it. besides, he was still trying to get used to college life.

the weeks dragged on, but one day, chad extended an invitation to go to a house party nearby. considering it was carter's first year of college, he accepted, eager to check out the scene at blackmore. as he got ready, a smile played at the corners of carter's lips. maybe this party was just what he needed to forget about the past and focus on the present.

chad and carter piled into his car, bumping up the volume as they sang along to some hits. with chad by his side and the windows rolled down, the air smelled of freedom. as they arrived outside the house, the party was already in full swing. dozens of people crowded the lawn, dancing around to music. chad seemed to feel right at home and immediately walked to the entrance without a second thought.

following his lead, carter followed behind, feeling a mix of anticipation and nervousness. the music was loud and his stomach was in knots, but he had one thing going for him, it was being good at hiding his nerves. he breathed out a sigh of relief as they walked inside the doorway, blending in with the crowd as much as he could.

people were scattered all over the living room, chatting it up and drinking with friends. the house was packed with energy, a party atmosphere that he hasn't experienced since high school. chad seemed to thrive in the environment, walking through the crowd smoothly and casually. on the contrary, carter felt a bit out of place, his eyes darting around anxiously.
