Elena's point of view.

As I fumbled for my keys, the weight of the day's revelations and the night's downpour made the world around me feel heavier, more charged. The anticipation of stepping into the quiet comfort of my home was interrupted by a sudden movement in the shadows.

a moment of heightened alertness as I faced the dark figure that had emerged from the corner of my eye.

But the tension shattered almost comically as the "intruder" let out a familiar meow. Relief washed over me as I recognized the figure: it was just Sasha, my cat, her green eyes glowing in the dim light. She looked up at me, an almost accusatory tilt to her head, as if to say, "Where have you been?"

"Sasha!" I exclaimed, a laugh escaping me as I scooped her up. The intensity of the moment dissipated, replaced by the warmth of my cat's fur against my skin. "Scared me half to death," I muttered, though my irritation was feigned.

After the brief heart-stopping moment with Sasha at the doorstep, the tranquility of my apartment wrapped around me like a familiar blanket. Sasha, now content in my arms, seemed to have forgiven my late return, her purrs a soft vibration against my chest.

"Sleep na tayo, baby Sasha?" I whispered to her as we moved towards my room, her green eyes blinking slowly up at me. Gently, I placed her on her little bed beside mine, where she immediately curled into a ball, the picture of contentment.

My phone lay beside me on the bed, its screen dark.

Just as I was about to surrender to sleep, my phone lit up, breaking the room's stillness. Glancing at the screen, I saw a message from Gabriel

“Nakauwi ka ba ng safe?”

I couldn't help but let out a soft laugh before typing my response. “Caleb, hinatid mo 'ko hanggang sa pinto ng apartment ko, but thanks, yes, naka-uwi ako sa apartment ko safely.”

There was a brief pause before his reply came through, carrying that characteristic mix of humor and concern. “Baka kasi mamaya nadapa ka pala papasok, diba?”

I shook my head, a smile tugging at my lips despite myself. “Ewan ko sa'yo,” I typed back
