It was really chilly outside.

She could feel the cool breeze hit the back of her neck as she walked to school.

Kim Daeun always appreciated nature, but never people.

The only exception for her was Kim Jongseob, her brother.

Daeun never liked to socialize with others her age.

She didn't understand being around people who could be so twisted and cruel, to eventually want to kill her.

She never talked to adults, simply because of the fact that she doesn't want to be associated with the same people who hurt her.

So ruthless.

Daeun and her brother walked along side each other.

Jongseob decided to start conversation.

"Will we be able to go to the cafe like old times after school today?" The teller, yet younger boy asked.

Daeun frowned, "I'm so sorry, Seob, but I have work today." The sister patted his head, "I'll try to make some time for us next week, I promise."

The seventeen year old nodded.

"Are you sure you don't want me to get a job. I can help out around the house and stop mooching."

"No, Jongseob. I don't need you to be stressed juggling school, and work. Just let me handle things, okay?"

The boy reluctantly nodded again, and they headed to school.

Despite the three year age gap between the two, Daeun always saw Jongseob as a baby.

She could easily recall when he was first born.

She was so happy.

She has always wanted another sibling, especially a younger brother.

"I will never let you be in danger, Jongseob."

Soon enough, they arrived to Jongseob's high school. Paju High School.

"Can you catch the bus on your way home today? My schedule runs a little early."

Jongseob nodded, giving his older sister a hug.

"Bye, EunEun."

"Have a good day at school, Seob."

And with that, Daeun was on her way to college.

Daeun was never the type to be late.

But today was different.

She assumed that she was walking too slow to get to school. Hence, she grew late.

Unfortunately for Daeun, her professor already marked attendance.

The door squeaked and the floorboards creaked as she attempted to sneak inside the classroom.

"Daeun! How nice of you to join us today." Her professor, Mr. Dong, sarcastically exclaimed.

The whole class was looking at her.

Daeun hated the attention.

She looked down, "S-sorry." She managed to mutter, just above a whisper.

"Go take a seat."

Daeun nodded, and almost immediately went to her unassigned, assigned seat, in the back corner of the room.

Usually, the last row was only occupied by herself. But this time, there was someone sitting next to her seat.

Daeun rolled her eyes at the unknown guy, sitting in her normal seat.

She quickly unloaded all of her stationary items from her bag, to quickly take notes of the current lecture.

But Daeun could feel a pair of eyes following her every move.

It was the orange-haired guy who decided to sit next to her spot.

"Hi!" He waved, flashing her a smile so bright, she would need sunglasses,"I'm Jiung."

"Didn't ask." Daeun short answered, not wanting to hold any conversation with the boy beside her.

"I know. But you seem... lonely." Jiung carefully worded to make his sentence not sound offensive.

That didn't work.

"Listen, I don't care for you, or your company, or anyone else's that's here right now. So would you please leave me alone?"

Cold.

Straight up cold is exactly what her response was.

Jiung was stunned after that.

"O-oh. i'm sorry." He apologized before turning back to his work.

'Who pissed in her coffee today?' Jiung thought to himself, as he just wanted to make a new friend.

But the girl did intrigue him.

He was determined to become her friend.
