"Hugo Blackwood!" The king bellowed, glaring down accusingly at the assassin. "You've been brought before me for the attempted murder of my kin, along with the murders of 20 other noble men, And several accounts of treason and slander against the royal blood... how do you plead?"
"king Fairwood." Hugo says instead, looking Fairwood up and down; a gleam in their eye. "You accuse me of committing treason, yet you hold no witnesses to cement your claims." Hugo challenges, murmurs erupting in the crowd of onlookers. The stands were occupied by nobles, and peasants; the slaves stopping in their duties to behold the spectacle before them.
"careful with your words traitor." King Fairwood spat, nothing but hatred in his eyes. "Don't forget my word decides your fate." King Fairwood rumbles, authority radiating off him in waves.
The assassin stood defiantly, lip curling in discussed."I'd like to see you bring forth proof of these accusations sir." Hugo states again, guards bristling at their back. "For if you don't have evidence, then how can your subjects be sure that they're just and kind ruler isn't some palter."
Murmurs erupted in the crowd once again."Your majesty." a noble said, gaining the kings attention. "As much as I respect, and cherish your rule, the traitor might have some wisdom behind their deceit... how shall we truly know if they are the treacherous scum we make him out to be, if we don't present proof for our claims."
"Very well..." king Fairwood practically seized in anger. "I call forth Jonathan Cherrypicker!" The king Bellows.
Hugo Feld bile creep up the back of there throat, they swallowed it down.
Jonathan is a very trusted ally of Hugo. Jonathan's betrayal could prove troublesome to the assassin.
Jonathan, Hugo's best friend, and business partner stepped forward.
Jonathan bowed to the king respectfully. Hugo clenched his jaw, already feeling the betrayal burn like white hot fire in his veins.
"sir." Jonathan addressed the king respectfully, keeping his head bowed."Jonathan, do you believe Hugo is innocent or guilty?" King Fairwood inquired, excitement radiating off of him.
"Guilty, you're elegance." Jonathan stated, gasps erupting amongst the stands."Hugo Blackwood!" King Fairwood addressed said assassin, a twisted grin tugging at his lips. "the court hereby pronounces you guilty of murder, treason, and conspiring against the royal family."
Hugo couldn't say anything, as they were let away by the guards; betrayal, and hurt stinging at their eyes, and nipping painfully at their heart.
Hugo had known Jonathan for nearly 20 years. Hugo thought they could trust their fellow peasant with their secrets, which makes the betrayal sting that much more.
Hugo grunts as they are thrust back into the cell, bars rattling shut with a reverberating cling.Hugo slumped against the wall; fighting back against the tears attempting to spill over, and drag them into the deep pit of despair.
Hugo couldn't say how much time passed, before they heard the clink of armor."Stand up traitor." The gruff voice of one of the guards ordered.
Hugo stood to their feet, the fight having left their limbs once they're trusted companion had betrayed them. The guards roughly dragged Hugo to a platform in town Square.
The boards creaked under there weight; tension in the ropes keeping the platform poised. the only thing keeping Hugo from plummeting the couple of feet to the ground."Hugo Blackwood, you have been found guilty of murder, treason, and conspiring against the royal family." King Fairwood began, not quite being able to suppress the sadistic glee. "You're hereby sentenced to death by hanging."
A rope was fashioned around the assassin's neck. Hugo silently cursed the king, as the guards finished fastening the rope around their neck and left the platform.
"Any last words?" King Fairwood inquired, fingers tapping with anticipation."I'll see you in hell glos pautonnier." Hugo spat with one last ounce of defiance.
Hugo heard, rather than felt their neck break; when the platform dropped from underneath their feet.
