"It's not fair
The past is clear but it's clear back there
What's ahead? No one knows
But it's closing in, we swear
Still not in my prime, I have so much to do
But maybe it's time to let time pass through
I can't just rewrite decisions when life gets strange
Should I go with my gut on which door I should shut?
I'm unsure
I'd keep exploring this rut
But what good is time without change?" ~ Passing Through (Can't the Future Just Wait) By Kaden MacKay

The cicadas screeched, as I made my way through the dark farmland. The path ahead lit, with only the silver light of the moon, stars the only witness to my hasty retreat.

I had pulled my cloak over my head, my footsteps practically echoing in the near silence. I hesitated at the tree line I turned to look at the old farmhouse.

I had grown up in that house, learned so many things; but it was time to say goodbye.

My eyes drifted open; the dream haunting me, and causing a weight of melancholy to fall on my shoulders. I won't be leaving them forever, I'll be back. My return just might take a while.

I force myself out of the warm comfort, known as my bed; wings drooped, with the weight of what I'm about to do.

In the dark I get dressed; I wear my usual outing attire, the familiar send of my cloak comforting me. I pulled the hood over my head, a sense of déjà vu washes over me.

I don't think about my life outside of my dreams, often. It's a little strange I am reminded of this now. Despite all this time, I can still remember the night that I changed my life forever.

I shook my head, snapping out of my thoughts.

"There's no better times than the present." I murmur quietly, as to not wake anyone.

I make breakfast, and set it out for the others. I do the chores around the house, even the ones that aren't my own. Finally, I sling my bag over my shoulder; My palm resting against the cool metal of the door.

"Dad?" Sparks says, clearly tired.

I turn, with a sad smile, and look down at the shorter sinner.

"What do you need?" I inquire, Sparks looks up at me.

They hold out their arms, the invitation clear. I kneel down, and scoop them into my embrace; wrapping my arms, and wings around him. She returns the hug.

"Why can't I go with you again?" Sparks inquires, bearing their face in my shoulder.

"If you would still want to join me." I start, brushing my talons through the feathers on their head. "I will let you know if it's safe, when I figure it out."

Sparks grumbles something into my shoulder, before pulling away.

"Don't double die." Sparks states.

"I promise I won't, 'double die'." I replied with a smile. "there's breakfast on the table."

I straighten, hesitant to get back on track.

"Jupiter." Johnny, stops me next.

"What's up John." I turn once more.

"Don't do anythin' stupid." Johnny says bluntly, I have always liked his bluntness.

"Johnny." I look him in his eyes. "I am literally hundreds of years older than you, I'll manage."

"goodbye." Johnny says simply, amusement tugging at the corners of his lips.

"NO!" Sparks intervenes. "Goodbye seems too... final."

"This is not a goodbye." I agree, pausing for a moment, to find the right words.

"See you soon." Johnny finishes.

"yes!" Sparks flares their wings. "see you soon!"

"See you soon." I say one final time, before turning, my smile not feeling as sad as before.

I'm leaving yet another home. However, this doesn't feel as permanent; besides, I have their phone numbers.

I unfurl my wings, and dart into the sky; allowing a bit of optimism to creep into my gray skies, doubles of sunlight parting rain filled clouds.
