"Starving.""Great! It's still morning here so let's look around. The TARDIS feels a bit weird so I'm gonna leave her to settle for a bit. I think it was the maze."
She closes the TARDIS door behind you as you step out into the quiet rush of Sheffield. "Maybe we can get matching pyjamas or something, I've always wanted matching pyjamas." You smile and she follows you into Primark. After hours spent there, it's only you that walks out with a pair, the Doctor fussier than words for what pyjama she wants.
You turn the corner to face a small fish and chip shop. "I'll get us much better ones than that y/n," she points distastefully at your bag, "this will look like the disaster it is compared to it. And anyway, what sort of name is Primark?"
She repeats the word Primark to herself as you walk into the shop, not realising where you are.
"Oh! We're eating, yay!"The Doctor sits down at a small round table in the corner. "Give me the bag, I'll reserve the seats."
You frown at her, but she bats her eyelashes in return and pushes you towards the counter.
"A medium fish for me please y/n."You order, and lean against the counter while you wait, the Doctor scrutinising her screwdriver. You hear her mumble to herself and tut when she puts it back in her pocket.
"Here we are then madam," you say as you approach the table again, "your meal."
"Why thank you my lady. One's tummy does feel quite peckish."
You laugh and grab a chip. The shopkeeper starts to scream on the phone and you and the Doctor stay in silence for the length of the phonecall. When it ends, and you're both picking at your food despite your hunger, the silence lingers.
"Did you um, hear anything y/n? Back there. I dont know if you realised but your hands were cupped over your ears."
You sniff, unsure of how to answer but it seems the Doctor isn't finished.
"I heard Bill," she says shyly, " I think it was because of our conversation yesterday."Your head comes up. "Bill? What was she saying?"
The Doctor nibbles at the end of a chip. "She was screaming. At me. I was telling her to calm down." She smiles. "She's brilliant like that." It fades. "But in that situation, she was so right to scream."
"I heard Jack." You say, grabbing the ketchup. "He was warning me about you. About how you shove people aside because you're so lonely. Especially those most eligible to be with you."
The Doctor gives you a knowing look and cuts her fish. "Yeah. He wouldn't be wrong I guess. It's hard to be so open when most of it is bad. Why would I want people to know the bad stuff about me? It's the real stuff. Knowing it, they know the real me and then it's clear I'm a bad person."
She looks up again and takes the ketchup. "It's only cool if it's hinted at."
You snort at her words but your hands still as you think over what she said.
"I get that. Morality is black and white to so many so what can you do? All anyone wants in the end is to be loved.""True." She nods. After a second she smacks her hand on the table.
"You know, maybe that's why the Daleks want so much, they can't love so they burn and pillage instead." She gasps. "That's genius!""Looks like Davros missed the key to peaceful living."
"Looks like someone else did too Doctor."
Now she snorts.
"What about you y/n? You living peacefully?"You shrug. " I guess we're all in this together, you, Davros and I."
The Doctor scrunches her nose. "What a team."
You smile."You know," the Doctor starts, shoving a chip in her mouth,"it's been ages since I've had chips." She pauses. " I mean I say ages, but it actually wasn't that long ago." She looks up.
"Bill was practically begging for it. Before that though, that was ages. Proper ages. Jack would know about this actually. About Rose."She didn't say anything more, fingers fidgeting with the hem of the box. After a minute she licked her finger. "You wanna head back? I'm not that hungry anymore."
You nod in reply, thinking about what Jack told you about Rose. Bad wolf and the Parallel universe. About how Rose and the Doctor loved eachother.
"Yeah, I'm not that hungry either."You stand up and move across the table to pick up your Primark bag, your hand resting on the Doctor's shoulder consolingly as you lean down.
You walk out the alley and down the street, with your arms swinging against the Doctor's. You walk with the airs of two people who had just become much closer.
You smile as you walk. With the sun still a few hours before setting, the sky is painted with a roaring sea of yellow, strikingly similar to the hair of the Time Lady next to you."Oh yeah." You pick out a piece of paper from your pocket and turn to face the Doctor, walking backwards.
"I made a schedule." The Doctor's eyes sparkle again. "Wednesdays and Sundays are my rest and practice days for ballet."
You twirl. "This prima ballerina won't train herself , will she?" Your face darkens dramatically. "Or will she?"The Doctor laughs and courtsys. "I accept your terms madame."
You arrive back at the TARDIS and you set the bags of clothes and food on one of the bench in the control room before joining the Doctor to look at the screen. What looks to be Gallifreyan appears and the Doctor nods.
"Better old girl? I'm gonna take you for a test drive, just a few kilometres, okay?"The TARDIS hums and she pushes the lever. The take off feels rockier than it should and you only have time to look at the Doctor for a second before you're thrown out and falling towards the ground.
You and the Doctor see the TARDIS moving away from you, regeneration energy beaming in all directions."I THINK SHE'S NOT FULLY HEALED YET Y/N!" You hear the doctor scream.
"YOU THINK?!""DOCTOR, MY PYJAMAS ARE STILL IN THERE!" You pause. "AND MY FISH!"
"SORRY! I WASN'T EXPECTING THIS TO HAPPEN YOU KNOW!"
The Doctors hands tug at your top and you reach backwards, holding onto it.
All you see is the declining sun until you land, crashing through what sounds like metal.Your head spins for a moment after you land and your stomach tingles. The Doctor is laying next to you, your hand still holding onto her arm and you hear commotion from behind you.
"Graham! Call the ambulance!" You hear a woman say.
The Doctor lifts the arm you're holding onto. "It's okay... no need."You sit up slowly and turn to stand up when you catch sight of your hands. Your own regeneration energy. You let out a small "oh!"
The Doctor sits up a second later and gasps at you. "Y/n?"
You slump down on a seat and look at your surroundings, half squinting. A train.
"You should sit down too love," the same woman says to the Doctor, "You two fell very violently."The Doctor stretches. "It's okay, it's just my TARDIS. She had a bit of a reaction."
You snort and she looks over at you in disbelief. "Are you and the TARDIS connected?" She asks you.
You raise your eyebrows. "What? No! It's just something I can do. Consider it a quirk of mine." You wink.
"Y/n! What the hell!"
She goes to follow you as you stand up, hearing a boy mumble to someone "You see she's glowing right?", but realises where she is and registers the presence of the 5 people standing in front of her.
"Oh. You all right guys? What you all shocked for?"
