JIMIN POV
Nerves kept me from sleeping.
I'd researched the Perfect
Match Agency as soon as I
found out my parents had
used it to find my future husband.I was amazed at what I'd
found out.Personality compatibility, pheromone compatibility—everything was taken into account.
The online testimonials were glowing.
Some couples felt the pull to bond and marry from the moment they met.
My first meet with my match
was set for Friday night, nine-forty-five, just after dusk,
which came late this far
north in the summertime.I would be allowed use of the formal living room.
Father and Papa would witness.
I was to dress fancy but not
my kind of fancy.Papa had insisted.
"Do not shame us further in
this transaction and God's
will shall be done."I told myself not to worry
but of course I was more
worried than I'd ever been
in my life.If my Perfect Match mate rejected me, what then?
Was I doomed to remain
forever in this unfriendly
house?Or would Father and Papa
change their minds and
decide to force me to marry
one of those lecherous arch lectors of the sect?I shuddered as I leaned
toward my bathroom mirror, trying to keep still as I worked
on shaping my eyebrows.I wanted to look perfect for
my alpha.Father once told me I was the most beautiful of his sons but added that it was no surprise
to him because the devil used extreme beauty in demons
to entice the pure souls of
mortal men.I added light foundation to
bring out the glow in my
sun-starved skin.Dark eyeliner made my blue
eyes pop.Clear lip gloss showed off the natural pink of my lips.
I wore my long hair down
with a touch of shellac spray. It fell in smooth, straight
locks about my shoulders
and down my back, a river
of earthen brown. My brothers were not allowed
to grow their hair long but
my parents had no control
over me and didn't care.I knew my appearance shocked them every time they saw me.
It got me the attention I
missed even if that attention
was negative.I opened my closet and sorted through my velvet coats.
I chose Papa's least favorite,
a lime green jacket that flared
at the waist and reached to
my knees.Pairing it with red leather
pants would look awesome
with my white button up shirt.Bright.
Pretty.
Garish.
Yep. That was me.
I finished off the ensemble
with red ankle boots.I turned around and around
in front of my closet mirror.Maybe my alpha would
hate it but I liked it.
