New York City, 1982"What happened next?" Jack Maid asked, obviously interested.
"I don't know." Riley said.
"What do you mean 'You don't know'?" Marilyn Clancy asked.
"I honestly don't know," Riley started, "I must of passed out or something once I hit the water."
"Well what happened to Lucas? And Maya? And your family?"
"My family was fine, so was Maya. Brandon happened to be fine too, but I stopped talking to him."
"Good girl." Marilyn said, and Riley laughed.
"Joshua and Lucas were the only ones who weren't found." Riley looked down. "I didn't even get to say goodbye to Lucas."
"Well we don't know that he died." Jack retorted.
"Right, but I am very old, you know. Who knows what could have happened to him."
"Hey," Marilyn started, "I just found something on Joshua." Riley's head perked up. "It says here that in 1913, someone interviewed a man named Farkle? Yes Farkle, what a weird name."
"Oh yeah Farkle! That was Lucas's friend!" Riley said enthusiastically.
"Well it says here that Farkle was saved by a man named Joshua who drowned right after he saved Farkle. And it also says that Joshua said to tell someone named Maya that he loved her."
"Oh my God! That was Josh! Maya never got to see him again."
"But," Marilyn started, "I couldn't find anything in Lucas. There is nothing here!"
"Of course there isn't." Riley started, "There shouldn't be. You know how many years I spent looking for him? Too many to remember. I even tried to contact his family, and nothing. Nobody knew anything about Lucas Friar. He only exists in my memory."
"Did you go on to marry anybody else?" Jack asked.
"Oh I tried. I went on many dates, but I never stayed with any of them. My standards were too high. No one could live up too how amazing Lucas was." She sighed. "I had the most amazing three days with him, the best days I've ever had." Riley sighed again and rested her head back.
"I'm getting a little worn out guys, I better go rest."
"Alright thank you Riley." Marilyn said.
Riley nodded and headed to her room.
___Riley woke up from her nap and decided to walk to her favorite coffee shop down the street.
She walked in the doors and went up to the counter.
"Hey Riley!" The barista said.
"Hey Mary, just the usual for me."
"Alright, it should be a few minutes."
"Thank you." Riley said as she paid for her coffee and muffin.
She went and sat down at the table to wait.
A man about her age walked in just then and up to the counter.
"Hello!" Mary said cheerfully, "What will it be today?"
"Just a black coffee for me." He said huskily.
"Alright," Mary said, typing his order in. "And what's your name?"
"Just put it under Lucas."
Riley's head perked up.
"Lucas." She whispered to herself, but she shook her head. It couldn't be him, Lucas is a very popular name.
He walked towards her and Riley's stomach dropped. Emerald green eyes.
"Hello," he greeted.
"Hi," she shyly responded.
He hesitated looking at her, but kept walking and sat down in the table behind her.
"Riley!" Mary said, "Its ready!"
She stood up and got her coffee and muffin before heading back to her table. Lucas kept his eyes on her the whole time.
Riley, feeling very uncomfortable, sat back down with Lucas's stare still on her.
"Lucas!" Mary yelled, signaling his coffee was ready.
He got up and walked over to the counter, got the coffee, and walked back over to the table. All the while he still had his eyes on Riley.
As he sat down Riley rose an eyebrow, "Why are you staring at me?" She asked.
He paused, "Because your as beautiful as you were when we first met."
Riley's eyes widened. She felt as if she was going to pass out. "Oh my God." she croaked.
"Though I do miss your long brown hair. Your brown eyes are still big and full of kindness I see."
"Lucas!" she yelled as she collided in to him in a warm embrace.
"I missed you so much Riley, I can't believe I found you."
Tears were streaming down her face. "I love you Lucas."
He let go and kissed her soft lips. "I love you too."
"I need to show you my house! Wow we really need to catch up!" Riley said excitedly.
Lucas laughed. "Man I missed you."
