ANYTIME JULES WALKED INTO THEIR house it was like she had her own secret door bell. because chris and nick were at the door in a matter of seconds when she walked in. they must have some sort of tracker on her at this point. it was the only thing that made sense to her.

"jules! we're watching your favorite!" nick said as he pulled her into a loving hug.

"what?! are you serious?" she asked, giving matt the trash bag of taco bell to throw away for her, as she and nick bolted for the living room. their was popcorn already in bowls and blankets and pillows placed around for them all to sit and watch. ten things i hate about you was paused at the very beginning, and she could tell by the opening scene. it made her smile knowing that they put this movie on because they knew she was coming. did matt tell them to put it on?

chris stayed back with matt, not even being acknowledged by jules, which kind of hurt him. though, he understands that she is just excited about watching this movie.

"thrown under the bus, huh?" matt asked as he threw the bag in the trash can, noticing that he didn't even get a "hi".

"it's cool, i'll make her feel bad about it later." he smiled mischievously, knowing he could use it to his advantage. in a joking way of course.

"i wouldn't." matt blurted, eyes widening when he realized what he just said.

jules wasn't the type to ruin everyones mood, so whenever nights like tonight happened, they both decided to not tell nick and chris about it. usually she would feel better by the time they got to the house, so matt never had to worry about having to explain anything to them. he just sensed that she was still not herself even when she walked in. she kept giving him looks that showed she was still not over what had happened, and if chris were to mess with that, it wouldn't quite end well.

"what do you mean?" the youngest brother contorted his face in confusion, not really understanding why he couldn't be normal around jules anymore.

"nothing, she's just excited about the movie. i don't want you to ruin that with your little jokes." matt's explanation only made chris more confused because jules has never cared about chris making comments or jokes during her favorite movies.

"she knows i'm joking, though. it's never been a problem, matt."

"just don't tonight, okay? trust me." it weirdly sounded like a threat, but he would always take matt's word on it. because as much as he didn't want to admit it, matt knew jules the best out of the three of them.

"fine. but i'm still asking her why she didn't say anything to me." chris went to go into the living room, sitting in the makeshift bed that was next to jules.

matt watched as he said something to her, which he guessed was something about why she didn't acknowledge him earlier, she laughed back, of course. he noticed that she looked genuinely happy, but he could sense that she was still hurt inside. this was all really just a distraction.

jules immediately noticed when matt made his way over to sit with them, taking his spot in the "bed" farthest from jules. chris was the only one inbetween the two but it still felt far to the both of them.

"let's start the movie!" nick cuddled up in his bed, grabbing his popcorn, and getting cozy for the movie.

they got through thirty minutes of the movie before jules noticed matt wasn't even watching it. the light from his phone illuminated his face, he had a smile growing aswell. who was he texting that he had to stop watching the movie he promised her they would watch together?

then it was like a lightbulb was switched on in her brain. the thought came from earlier today when she was texting him and he gave her the news he had about this weekend. he had to have been texting sophia. jules understood that there was something going on between the two of them but it still didn't click in her brain. everytime she was reminded of it, it was like a bomb had dropped. the explosion causing a ripple of emotion and she never knew which one to feel.

out of pure curiosity, she got up and made her way over to matt's little "bed" and sat down right next to him, he turned his phone off immediately and she wished that she was looking at his phone instead of his face. even the smallest little second and she could have confirmed or denied her sophia claim.

"whatcha doin?" she whispered, trying not to gain more attention from the other two than she's already had. to be fair, she knew they weren't very intrigued by the movie, having watched it a billion times, so anything that was going on caught their attention. i.e. jules literally standing up and moving to sit by matt.

"nothing much, why?"

"you're not watching the movie." without being able to see her, matt could tell that she had somewhat of a frown on her face, he knew she was disappointed.

he felt bad for not watching the movie like he had promised to, so he tried to make her feel as though his distraction was meaningless. he said, "i was just answering a quick text, i'm sorry, i'm watching it now." he added a smile at the end, looking directly at her to see if that helped with anything. it didn't do much.

"then why were you smiling so much?" she refused to look at him while she asked it, watching the movie now for herself.

jules could suddenly sense the tension starting to fill the air between the two. she actually hated the feeling of it and wish she didn't even ask the question in the first place. so she decided to take it back, saying, "nevermind, i don't care that much."

and though she did care, it wasn't enough for her to purposefully ruin anything between the two of them. so of course she was glad when the tension she had previously dreaded was eventually gone. it felt like they were just jules and matt again, sitting and watching ten things i hate about you. knowing she couldn't even find one thing to hate about him.
