Chapter Sixteen: War Ready

Victoria's call came like a bolt from out of the blue, her voice filled with fury and determination. Karina listened intently as Victoria described the scene unfolding before her, the sheriff, Luther, and the District Attorney, Tom Nash, exchanging money bags and women at Alligator Park. Karina's suspicions had been confirmed, Luther was up to something big, and she needed to act fast.

"We need to meet," Karina said, her voice steady despite the storm raging within her. "The movie theater, 9 pm, parking lot on Highway 90."

Later, Karina arrived at the theater, Victoria was already there, her eyes blazing with resolve. "What's up, sister soldier?" Karina teased, a smile tugging at the corners of her lips. The two begin to discuss updated information. "Girl, I may have to go to West Palm Beach to handle some things. Will you be able to keep a watchful eye on things here for a few days?" Karina asked in a begging tone. " Of course, I got you boo". " Do what you need to do." Victoria said in a comforting tone. But just as we were about to say our see you laters, the unexpected happened.

The moment was fleeting, however, as the night exploded into chaos. Bullets whizzed through the air. Karina and Victoria found themselves under fire. Without hesitation, Karina grabbed her gun, and Victoria followed suit. The assailants seemed to outnumber them, but Victoria's military training kicked in, and she began to pick off their attackers with deadly accuracy.

"Cover me," Victoria shouted, and Karina moved into position, her eyes scanning the parking lot for any sign of movement. Victoria made it to her trunk, retrieving a high-powered rifle with ease. She began to take down their attackers one by one, her shots ringing out in the night.

As the dust settled, only two assailants remained, one of them fitting the description of Francesca. Karina realized that Francesca was behind the attack, her bitterness over the money Karina had stolen from her at the Sugar Shack was driving her to try and seek revenge. But Karina had no regrets. The money she had taken from Francesca and others like Vito had been given to local charities, a small victory in the fight against corruption in Lake City.

As Karina and Victoria stood in the parking lot, the night alive with the sound of sirens in the distance, they knew that their battle was far from over. But they also knew that as long as they stood together, they could face whatever challenges lay ahead. The bond between them was forged in fire, and it would see them through to the end.
