Chapter Eleven: Run-In with Luther
Karina stepped out of the church, her mind still reeling from her confrontation with Pastor Mcray. She had barely taken a few steps when she bumped into Luther, an old drug dealer turned pimp who ran the east and west side of Lake City.
"Luther, what are you doing here?" Karina asked, surprised to see him. Luther was a legend in Lake City, known for his ruthless business dealings and his ability to stay one step ahead of the law.
"I'm just passing through, Karina," Luther replied, his voice smooth and confident. "Just tying up some loose ends."
Karina knew better than to trust Luther's smooth talk. She knew that he was wrapping up his drug game and buying girls from the sheriff, a fact that irritated Vito to no end. But Luther wasn't looking for trouble. He was just looking to retire in peace, in his huge home that resembled a playboy ranch.
As Luther walked away, Karina couldn't shake the feeling that trouble was brewing in Lake City. Luther's presence was a sign that things were about to get even more dangerous, and she knew that she would have to tread carefully if she wanted to survive.
Karina's suspicions about Luther's activities were confirmed when she caught sight of him having lunch with the Sheriff at the Brown Lantern, a seedy diner on the outskirts of Live Oak, FL. Luther was getting himself into trouble by indulging in deals with the Sheriff and his gang, further solidifying his grip on the illegal activities in the city.
As Luther and the Sheriff laughed and joked over their meal, Karina knew that Lake City was about to flood with money. All the illegal activities were running smoothly, with no one investigating or trying to stop them. But Karina was about to change the game.
She decided to contact Victoria, her friend from the New Black Panthers who resided in Georgia. Victoria was a fierce activist who had a network of resources and connections that could help them take down Luther, the Sheriff, and anyone else involved in the corruption in Lake City.
Karina knew that she was taking a risk by reaching out to Victoria, but she was determined to bring justice to her city. With Victoria's help, she hoped to uncover the truth and expose the corruption that had plagued Lake City for far too long.
