Chapter 22

Rhaena stretch and she stand up from her desk. She get her bag and head for the door. She head to the elevator and get on.

What she didn't know was how close she came to losing her life.

When the elevator stop she get off and get this feeling that she was being watched. Her skin pricked and undeniable fear crawl up her spin.

She ran to the bathroom not far from where she is and lock herself in. She dial Daemon and she was glad when he answer on the first ring.

"Baby."

"Someone is following me. I'm in the downstairs bathroom from the elevator."

"Do not come out."

She yelp when something hit the door. "Hurry please."

"Don't hang up."

She huddle in the corner as tears stream down her face. The hitting continues and she fear they will break the door before Daemon got there. This is the most secure building because Daemon make sure of it.

The beating stop and she heard grunting and the sound of bones breaking. She grimace at the sound and hope that was the enemy.

"Baby open the door."

Rhaena scramble off the floor and run to the door. She open it and Daemon look down at her, his eyes pits of nothing.

"Are you hurt?" She shake her head no. He pick her up and she hand onto him because her life depends on him.

Elias and Levi head inside to clean up the mess.

Daemon get into the car and the driver pull away from the building.

"You're safe now."

"Was those my father's men?"

"Yes."

A phone ring and Daemon take out his. "You know what to do Alex. Good."

Daemon hang up and Rhaena look up at him. She trace the black veins on his skin. His hand wrap around her wrist and she realised he wasn't wearing his gloves.

Shadows dance around his hand and his fingers are black.

"Does it hurt?"

"I don't feel pain Baby." She interlock their hands, his hands dwarfing hers.

"Why do you wear gloves?"

"It dull my powers."

"Why dull them?"

"They make me look like a monster."

"You're anything but a monster. You're in the shadows but you're not a monster."

Her smile widen when he raise a eyebrow at her.
