Aria's POV:

A sliver of blinding light caused me discomfort, making me squirm underneath the covers. I tried pushing the blanket over my eyes but the damage had already been done.

I groaned loudly and angrily thrashed in my bed as if it were to change anything. But all it did was take me out of my sleepy trance.

There was no one other than me in my room so I figured Adela must have retreated to her room some time ago.

Maybe she's telling Landon about the baby today.

A brisk knock at the door captures my attention before they ask for permission. "Can I come in?"

I'm pretty sure it was Jaden. "Yeah, sure," I say in a croaky voice.

"Okay, so they told me to tell- Woah," He had begun his rant but looked taken aback all of a sudden.

"You look like you got jumped," He snorts before he has a full meltdown of laughter.

It seemed impossible but my frown etched even deeper before giving him a fake, cold laugh. "That was just hilarious, Jaden," I say almost automated as I glared at him.

It took a couple of seconds for Jaden to gather himself before he could tell me whatever he originally needed to say.

"Uncle Lawrence wants you and everybody else to meet up in the conference room after lunch." He said nonchalantly as if it were an everyday thing to have a conference room in your house.

But then again they lived in a mansion and were crazy rich.

"What is it about?" I sighed, hopping off my bed and grabbed a hair tie off my vanity before scooping up my curls that had been set loose from my bonnet.

"I don't know but it's probably about how things are going to go around the house now that you're here."

For some reason that made me feel guilty all of a sudden. Even though I was brought here, all I did was cause disorganization and disrupt the harmony of this family.

"Aight, I'll be down in a bit," I said before walking into the connected bathroom.

I made it down into the dining area 20 minutes later, refreshed from my slumber. Everybody had been grim and quiet as if they were mourning.

I slowly sat down and I immediately assumed it was about me sleeping in. A girl gotta get her sleep.

"I know I slept in until like lunch," I said, unsure if that was the case now. "And that was my bad."

Nobody answered. Not even Adela who I had a sleepover with just last night. Or Jaden who had been joking around with me 20 minutes ago.

"We should just ask her now?" Jeremiah whispers over to his father but he isn't discreet about it.

"We'll wait after lunch," Said Lawrence with his demeanour even colder than I had once thought it was. "No need to spoil such good food."

Okay, what the actual fuck did I do to these people? I thought hard wondering what I had done to piss them off up until my arrival.

I mean I did call some of them some colorful words a few times but that was when no one was around. I doubt they heard me unless they have super hearing or some shit.

Oh gosh, I'm in some deep shit.

Everyone began taking little bites of their food but the appetite that had taken a long time to be won back disappeared and my food looked disgusting.

You could hear the clock ticking in the corner, the utensils crashing against the plate, and my foot nervously tapping down against the marble floor.

Lunch had felt like an eternity with the silence that had replaced the usual laughter. Lawrence was the first to stand up from his chair which everybody followed. It was almost like I was out of unison and I almost stumbled out of my seat like I was some idiot trying to catch up with the rest of them.
