Luca's POV:

Despite being covered in blood and looking visibly exhausted, she was beautiful.

Her hazel eyes looked like flowers with her long lashes that covered them. She had brown-gold curly hair that went past her shoulders in a beautiful curl pattern. How her pink, plump lips pouted it felt like I was in a chokehold looking at her.

She was simply perfect.

I tried pushing down this weird feeling in the pit of my stomach whenever I saw her, but it felt like she was a magnet and I just wanted to get closer and closer with her.

Walking out of the room, I tried my best to hide my amusement but Dad had caught on, looking with an arched brow as if to ask, "What happened?"

I shook my head, brushing it off before greeting the Hart family, smiling a bit brighter than usual when I shook their hands. She had me so twisted and I only knew her name.

Everybody aside from Adela and Landon had settled down on the old furniture of the cabin. Until all threats against the Harts had been under control, they would be staying in our safe house to lay low.

"We need to get to the warehouse immediately, assemble our men, and create plans," Lawrence said coldly, rolling up his cuffs. "The Serpents have now not only murdered Hope Williams in cold blood, but they have now directly attacked our home and tried taking my daughter."

"It's war." He finished off almost casually with no trace of emotions in his eyes and the whole room stilled.

"We have been getting intel that they have been stocking up on men and weapons." Adrian pointed out.

Dad speaks beside me, "Adrian is right, and word around the street is that there might be an alliance between them and the Bratva."

Marco, my cousin, shook his head at the sound of this. "We need to think carefully about this because this affects both our mafias and one wrong move..." He let us finish the thought ourselves.

Being in an alliance meant if one mafia burned down, its ally would likely go down with it too.

"But we can't just sit here and let them create an alliance to bring us down. On top of that, they attacked the Hart's home for exactly what?" Jeremiah pushes and his father nods in agreement.

"I'm positive it has something to do with Hope's murder," Mr. Hart continues to drop a bomb on all of us. " And I'm positive... they want my daughter."

My eyes slightly widened as Adrian added on slowly, as if he were just realizing it himself now. "When we were surrounded in the underground parking lot, the Serpents weren't trying to kill her- they were trying to take her for themselves."

Mr. Hart for the first time, looked visibly distraught. "If she didn't know how to defend herself, they would've..." His words trailed off as his fists clenched tightly.

"We need to settle this once and for all," Dad says slowly, watching and waiting for his close friend to listen. "It should be best if one of us always stays with her, maybe bodyguards."

Jeremiah shook his head. "We should have closer people to stay with her, not bodyguards. Plus, she would refuse to have them in the first place."

"She's almost a female copy of Landon," Adrian says to lighten the mood, which he rarely does.

A smirk tugs at my lips hearing about her. I knew from the first time I saw her, that she didn't take disrespect lightly and I... liked that.

"Anyways, we need to get to the warehouse as there is no time to waste. We don't know if they will attack again or throw any surprises." Lawrence stated as he stood up, slipping on his suit jacket.

"Is Landon or Adela going to stay with Aria?" Marco asks, but Adrian and Jeremiah quickly shake their heads.

"Landon is going to demand that Adela sticks with him," Adrian explains before continuing. "And if we left Landon and Aria alone either way- it's just in our best interest to not do so."

Remembering the chaotic scene in the kitchen, I understood what he meant. It almost pained me to see how Aria was pushed into a corner by her own family.

But it was none of my business, and I have high respect for Mr. Hart and Landon. I had already pushed too far when I backed her up.

But still...

"I can stay back," I offered when nobody was volunteering.

Yes, I was jumping at the chance of staying longer in Aria's presence and I was slightly ashamed at how desperate I felt to stay back.

Mr. Hart gave my Dad a look for approval and Alessio nodded.

"Alright then, it's been decided. Jeremiah, go get Landon and Adela." Lawrence demanded with his authority before inching close to me and whispering under his breath loud enough for me to hear. "Don't do any stupid shit with my daughter."

Fighting the urge to smirk at his protectiveness, I nod and with that, he turns with no other words and walks out of the cabin.

Landon was the last one out and shut the door behind him and I let out a fatigued sigh. Walking over, I lock up all the other locks before dropping onto the coach.

The soldier from the fighting ring had been a big, bulky man and left me the bruise that was causing the ache on my side.

A smile forms on my face remembering his unconscious one before walking out of the ring covered in sweat and blood but still victorious.

I had no idea how long I spent dozing off on the couch but heartbreaking cries slowly filled the living room and through my ears.

Looking over at the room where Aria was, the soft cries became more and more distinct and the sound of it pulled at my heart a bit.

But I shouldn't have let that affect me. One day, I was supposed to take on my father's position as Don. I couldn't let some girl I barely knew make me soft.

I needed to be cold, ruthless, merciless.

But the longer I listened to her cries, the more I wanted to see what was wrong.

Groaning, I gave in and walked over to her door before knocking on the door. With no answer, I became restless and opened the door slightly only to see her still asleep.

Was she crying in her sleep?

Feeling compelled to get closer to her, I quietly inched towards her before kneeling at the bed despite the pain in my side screaming at me to stop.

Observing her face, pained cries spilt through her parted lips as her brows tightly furrowed.

She's in pain.

Tucking a stray curl behind her ear, my fingers made contact with her skin and a chill went through me at the electrifying feeling.

She was so beautiful but she was also hurt.

And for some reason, I didn't want to see her like that.

it was way past my bedtime and I found so many mistakes looking back at it now
