Past and Present Red Paladins (An OC insert)

There was a time before the galactic war broke out, where Diabazaal and Altea hadn't been destroyed and everyone lived without the fear that they may lose their lives or homes. Voltron both brought the universe together as its protector and was the reason everything was ripped a part.

The creation of Voltron started with the friendship between two kings, Alfor and Zarkon were like brothers to each other. When they had daughters, both girls were raised together, growing up so they could rule together.

When Alfor and Zarkon had created the universes protector, they had come to the agreement that Zarkon would be the teams leader as the Black Paladin while Alfor decided to be the brains behind the scenes. Kouvr, being the irrational and spontaneous daughter of Zarkon that she was, became Zarkon's right hand man as the Red Paladin. She was only young, being 12 when she enrolled in medical training and 14 when she'd become a paladin.

Kouvr spent most of her childhood on Altea with Alfor and his daughter Allura because of her parents research, which lead to Altea and the rest of the paladins becoming her second family. She'd go to either one of them before even thinking of disrupting her parent's 'busy' work.

Zarkon and Honerva had started showing weird changes in their behaviour, at first everyone had thought it was because Honerva was expecting another child, but it was later revealed that their changes in behaviour were much more than that once the Atlean researcher grew ill.

The couple seemed overjoyed when they found they were having a boy, leaving their daughter to feel as though she was inferior to not only her unborn brother, but their new found obsession with the very thing that fuelled Voltrons energy source.

Once Honerva grew sick, she believed the only way that she was to get better was to go into Diabazaal's quintessence field, Alfor and the other paladins had tried to reason with the Galran rulers, telling them all the risks that could occur from the extreme exposure to the energy substance. But neither of them listened, not even when their daughter had been on her knees in tears pleading for them not to go at the fear of losing her parents more than she already had.

But neither of them listened and went right ahead, both losing conscience when in the quintessence field, they had to be rescued by one of the lions. Zarkon and Honerva were both in coma's after that, with no sign of waking up, meaning their adolescent daughter had to step in as the Galran ruler temporarily until they awoke. She hoped they would awake at least. Which they did, but they were different, something had changed them while they were exposed to the quintessence. Kouvr's parents weren't the same anymore...

Next thing everyone knew, Zarkon had the Galra turn on everyone. He wanted Voltron and its power all for himself. That was when the war broke out.
