When Yuji woke up, he was in a daze. The first thing he registered was the fact that his arm was around Megumi, and the boy's face was pressed into his neck. The second thing he noticed was their tangled legs, making Yuji's mouth go dry.
Kugisaki was sprawled out on the other side of the bed, snoring softly. Yuji wondered if it was possible for her to wake up without drooling, deciding it was highly unlikely.
They must have fallen asleep while talking last night. Yuji vaguely recalled being exhausted, wanting to stay up, talk, and spend more time with his friends. However, his body had other plans, and he had passed out within minutes of lying down.
Megumi stirred, and Yuji froze. Megumi shifted, snuggling closer. Yuji blushed, feeling his face burn. He glanced down and saw Megumi's eyelids fluttering, wondering what he was dreaming about.
Yuji had never had someone sleep over, unsure of the etiquette. Should he untangle himself from Megumi, wake him up, or just stay still and pretend to be asleep? The latter sounded nice, but he didn't want Megumi to freak out, push him away, and think he was weird or creepy.
Slowly, he withdrew his arm and rolled onto his back. Megumi grumbled, and Yuji held his breath. Megumi settled, and Yuji breathed a sigh of relief.
He looked at his friends, heart swelling. They were both sleeping soundly, peaceful. Yuji had missed this - the three of them spending time together, talking about everything and nothing.
Deciding to get up and get dressed, Yuji knew there was something he needed to do, and the sooner, the better.
After a few minutes of shuffling around, trying not to wake the other two, Yuji slipped out of bed and crept out of the room. He quietly shut the door behind him and padded down the hallway.
As he made his way through the building, Yuji realized he had no idea where Gojo's room was or where the man would be at this hour. He hoped he wasn't walking around in circles, getting lost because he had a feeling Gojo would not appreciate being woken up and told he had been wandering the halls aimlessly, especially when most of the school believed him to be dead.
Luckily, after a few wrong turns and several long minutes of searching, he found Gojo. Gojo was sitting at a table in the kitchen, his usual blindfold covering his eyes. He looked up and gave Yuji a smile.
"You're up early," Gojo noted, his tone curious.
"Uh, yeah, I guess," Yuji admitted, his tone awkward. "I actually needed to talk to you about something."
Gojo nodded.
"I thought as much," Gojo mused, his voice gentle.
He patted the seat next to him, and Yuji sat down, chewing his bottom lip and fidgeting.
"What did you want to talk about?" Gojo prodded, his tone careful.
Yuji took a deep breath and looked up.
"There is something I didn't want to say in front of Fushiguro," he started, his voice tentative. "But, I think you should know."
Gojo's smile vanished, and his expression grew serious.
"Something happens to him, doesn't it?" Gojo asked, his tone subdued.
Yuji's eyes widened, and he gaped at the man.
"How did you-" Yuji cut himself off, his brow furrowing.
"You didn't have to say anything," Gojo explained, his tone soft. "It was obvious, from the way you looked at him, and the way you were protective of him. So, what happens?"
