Fool - Frankie Cosmos

It's a late night, and the group and I are up. We're practising for the Spring Festival, which appears to be a big thing here. I'm on the violin, Steph is rocking is on the drums and Alex is strumming her acoustic guitar. We try out a few songs and leave it to Ryan to decide which is best.

R: "The third one."
A: "And why would that be?"
R: "You guys were all really feeling that one."
S: "Ok Mozart. We'll go with the third one."
Z: "Sweet." I start packing my violin away.
S: "We sound tight!"
A: "Yeah we do."
R: "The violin definitely makes a good addition."
Z: "Thank you, glad to be of service."

It's been about 3 weeks since I came here, and it's the start of May. The Spring Festival is only 23 days away. Since my instruments came, Steph, Alex and I have been working hard to perfect a song for it. We've had a few late nights the past week, but it hasn't stopped my work. It's probably catching up to me.

I've been learning about Ben, and how prison messes people up. He's my first client that has been in there, so it's both interesting and difficult to understand. One thing I do understand is that he's a good man. He's in his 40s, and was arrested 2 years ago for stealing this fake watch from a jeweller in a bad part of his city. He has a friend here, Nick, a miner who used to work for Typhon when it was still running. Nick was the one who had invited him to stay here. I understand why Mac was so defensive, but Ben is nothing to be scared of. I'm sure whatever mindset he was in then is long gone. He's even willing to help set up for the Spring Festival, tending to the famous 'yellow roses'.

They say that you're supposed to give a yellow rose to someone really special to you. Like someone you love. It's a really sweet tradition. Honestly, I thought red roses were for love and yellow were for friendship, but each place has its own version I guess. Have I made any super special connections yet? Well of course there's Ryan, but are we really that close or am I fooling myself? I might as well give him one and see what happens, because I really do like him. A lot. Maybe too much. We'll see.

A: "Are you guys excited for the festival?"
Z: "Yeah! I can't wait."
S: "I still have crazy memories from the last one."
A: "It's gonna be our one year anniversary."
Z: "Aww, that's cute!"
S: "You never know, maybe it'll be yours to-" Alex elbows her before she can finish her sentence.
R: "You still up for that documentary Z? It is a little late."
Z: "For sure."
A: "You guys got a movie night planned?"
Z: "We were talking about nature documentaries, you know, National Geographic and all, and Ryan wanted to show me one of his favourites."
R: "It's not like boring or anything. I'm sure you'll enjoy it."
S: "I mean, if you're into that kind of thing. See you tomorrow, nature freaks."
Z: "See ya!"

"So you're a David Attenborough fan?"
"I used to watch National Geographic with my dad some nights. Never watched the whole thing through though. Attenborough was a legend though."
"Well this guy, Stan Kelly, is just like him, but - get this - he's American."
"Oh my gosh, I wouldn't have guessed by his strong American accent. His voice is ... kinda soothing. He whisper-talks."
"Whisper-talks? Never heard that one before."

Analyzing - Nima Fakhrara

Suddenly we hear some glass breaking outside.
"Wait here, I'll go check it out."
"I'm coming with you."
"It's ok, I won't be long."
"If I hear anything I'm coming."

After a few minutes, I start to get anxious. Not enough time has passed for Ryan to return, but still. I put on some shoes and rush down the stairs without a second thought.
"Sounds like the glass broke from that clothes shop. Kiki's, right? No time to guess."
I run over to the store which isn't far from the Lantern, and I peek inside. Ryan is in there looking around, so I walk in.
"Hey, what happ-"
"Jeez, you scared me."
"Sorry, sorry, I didn't mean to!" I whispered in an apologetic tone.
"It's alright. Whoever it was just broke the window and stole some mannequins from the display."
"That's a little strange."
"Yeah. We'll tell Pike in the morning, I doubt he'll be up now."
"Alright."
We head back to my room.

ur so pretty - Wasia Project

"You still wanna continue the documentary? We can finish it tomorrow if you want."
"It's all good. Yeah let's watch."
He presses play.

As the documentary continues, the guy's voice starts putting me to sleep. I yawn a few times.
"Tired?" He asks me and chuckles.
I shuffle up to him and rest my head on his shoulder. He's a little shocked, and he lifts up his arm and with a bit of hesitation he puts it around me. After a while I start falling asleep again, and the last thing I remember is him resting his head on mine.
