"Emma is also studying for the exam, but you don't see her working herself into the ground" Lucy mentions.
"Emma? Tim's rookie?" Sadie asks.
"yeah, she got a golden ticket a while ago for something or another and if she does well on the detective exam, she'll become a detective" Lucy explains.
"oh, I didn't know that" Sadie frowns. "do you think she'll get it?"
"I think that they'll choose whoever is the best" Lucy replies, vaguely and making Sadie's frown deepen.

"fine" Grey concedes, handing Sadie the list.
Sadie eagerly grabs the list, looking it over.

2. Weathers
3. Brooke.
"I got third?" Sadie exhales, her face lighting up.

"the person in fourth, Smitty, has been taking this test 7 times now and I believe it unfair to strip it away from him now" The Chief states. "so, I was wondering how you would feel about Emma Wilson taking your spot"
"w-what?" Sadie stutters out.
"well it's just that your two fiancees have written such amazing recommendations, I thought you would join them in wanting Emma to be a detective" The Chief explains.
"they wrote recommendations... for Emma?" Sadie asks.
[Present]
"they did, I have to say I was surprised. I expected to read amazing recommendations in your favor, but both Officer Chen and Sergeant Bradford chose instead to recommend Emma" The Chief answers.
"I'm sorry, can I..." Sadie sighs. "I-I didn't know they recommended Emma, um... I just need a little bit of time to think about this"
"you didn't know?" The Chief raises an eyebrow.
"No, I didn't" Sadie exhales, shakily.
"well then yes, of course, I must warn you that we will need your decision by the end of the day" The Chief says as Sadie stands up.
Sadie freezes, turning back to look at the Chief.
"sir, if I may ask, who would you choose, me or Emma?" Sadie asks.
"I must say that Emma has been shaping out to be the makings of a great detective. However, I've always chosen experience over talent and especially since my two best detectives, Harper and Lopez have been mentoring you, I would choose you" The Chief replies.
"I want the job, sir" Sadie decides.
Is half of her decision to spite Tim and Lucy?
Hell yes.
And she feels no guilt about it.
But the other half?
The other half is because Angela, Nyla, and the Chief all believe in her and she only needs one of them to believe in her because she doesn't want to disappoint that one person.
No matter what added up to her decision, she's made it.
"already?" The Chief asks.
"yes, sir" Sadie nods. "when do I start?"
