"Why are you babying me? I'm not disabled, y'know"
Mira slightly pushing me out the way, she picked up her handbag resting on her bed before I could get it for her.
Watching her put it on her shoulder, she looked at me, a smile appearing on her face. "Why are you staring?".
"Nah stare" I lie and she hummed in response.
"I told you I'm fine.. The things I don't remember aren't even all that important. It's like old memories— I understand the basics of everything else" she assures me.
"Plus I'm going with my boyfriend. I'll be fine" she walked over to me, placing a light kiss on my cheek.
I've been here with her since leaving Tae at her father's house. Just talking and ensuring she was good... During the midst of that, her boyfriend called saying he wanted to take her out.
Mi nuh feel like mi want she go.
It's not that I don't trust him, but it feels too soon for her to being doing too much— but I don't want to invade too much and make her feel like just because of what happened, she can't live normal again.
"Now can I go? He's been outside for awhile" she gestured to her room door and I offer her a small smile while nodding.
"And stop blaming yourself. You spoke to him and he chose not to listen.. You were in a different country as well. You're not God, you can't fix everything. The good thing is that I'm alive and I'm trying to move forward with my life"
"Things could've been worse, but it isn't" she adds.
I don't know tho. Feel like if mi did out here, I could've did more to stop him and prevent it from happening.
"Ah, gwaan. Call me when he drops you back home" I tell her and she nods.
"Go home to your little family" she playfully poked my arm and I smile, following her out her bedroom.
"It feels unreal you're having a baby. I'm happy for you though— And can you bring Tae to visit next time? I forgot how she looks"
"Yeah.. maybe tomorrow" I say, her older brother and mother looking at us as we passed the livingroom.
"You sure you'll be okay? I won't lie, I'm a lot scared about you going out right now. Did you take your pills?" her mom, Jaleah, joined us at the front door, the worries not hidden on her face.
"Mom, I'll be fine. Du'Jhon will take care of me.. and yes, I took all my medications" Mira assured her.
"Okay baby. Be careful and have fun" her mom hugged her, kissing her forehead gently several times.
