It has been a week since I started working in Uncle Alan's garage. Wait! I have been calling him Uncle ever since I joined here but it feels weird to think of him like that. He may be around 30, but the way he talks is more childish than a child!

How can someone be like that even after so many years?! He would have a sweet childhood I guess. WAIT! Why am I thinking about him now?

Did I even smile? No way I got more visible smile lines after joining here.

I shouldn't be thinking about such things about Alan. He is not.my.type. UGH! Why am I like this? I should focus only on my job here.

It is my first time coming to the pit during training hours. Way is now training in the field and Babe is about to join the rest. But why is Charlie not getting proper training like Babe and Way? Isn't he a racer just like them? Why should Alan always treat my brother with less attention than his other racers? Ugh! Double standards.

I turned on my laptop and started to check the horsepower of Babe's car as I saw Alan entering.

Alan:
How is it going, kid?

He asked as he came even closer towards me. But this beautiful moment was interrupted as Babe and Charlie came.

Babe:
Uncle?

Alan:
Are you ready, Babe? I will let Jeff tune your car again. I am sure that it will run quicker.

Alan looked at me and the laptop I was working on.

Alan:
Hey, kid. Show me some horsepower.

I was not in the mood to do anything Alan told me to do. Moreover, I have told him multiple times not to call me 'kid'. It makes everyone think of me as a kid who is incapable of working in the field. I sighed and shut my laptop down and moved into my room.

Alan:
H-hey kid? Oh? Alaiwa? (What?)

Sonic:
I think it will be impossible for you to break that kid's ice walls.

North and Sonic laughed at Alan. I can hear and watch them talking from my room but in a muffled tone.

Alan:
You... Just wait and watch.

Alan said as he raised the pointer finger to their faces.

UGH! It is not childish behaviour, but whatever he does is so adorable!

I was involved in finding a strategy to improve the horsepower, but then Charlie came in and threw a fit.

Charlie:
Why would you do that, Jeff?

Me:
What?

Charlie:
Who thought you to be so disrespectful to others?

Me:
Come on! He is not a kid to not understand it.

Charlie:
Don't be like that. This doesn't look good. You wouldn't know what they think.

Me:
See! This is why I said I don't want to work in the same place as you do! Don't interfere in my workplace.

Charlie:
Jeff!

I sighed and left the room, leaving my laptop there.

I know Charlie takes care of me in the best way he can. But I am a grown man! Why should he always take care of me leaving his own life behind? He is also at a similar age as me, yet feels obliged to parent me! I don't want him to regret his life after 10-15 years because he was babysitting me.

I can convince him when we are back at home. Not a big deal.

Alan:
Oh! Kid. You are here?

Me:
Why? What happened?

Alan:
Nothing! I was just searching for you

Me:
Why are you searching for me if there is nothing I can help you with?

Alan:
Hey! You think I talk to you just because I can get things from you in return?

Me:
Isn't that your reason?

Alan smiled and leaned forward. I didn't move an inch back. Although I wanted to, I also wanted to know what he was up to.

He walked towards me and I had to walk back, like I was left with no other option till my back could touch the stand.

The stand was filled with mechanical instruments and other sprays for the engine. I accidentally pushed them down, trying to move away from Alan. The tools were spread on the ground and the oils from the spray splashed, leaking down the stand.

Alan:
HEY!

The sound echoed in the room. My hands started to shiver and my heartbeat doubled. I don't know how to react or where to look either. I could also feel a sharp pain in my foot, but I was more scared than feeling the pain. I didn't dare to look down at my foot to know what was that which caused me pain.

Me:
I-I am

Alan ran towards me and held my shoulders tightly. He looked at my eyes with a confused stare. I gulped and tried to brush his hands off, but his hold only tightened. At this moment, I don't know where it hurts. My shoulder or my foot.

Alan:
Stay still.

Me:
I am sorry. I didn't know it was here.

Alan:
Don't you know there will be such stuff in a garage?

Me:
I know... but I -

Alan:
Enough already.

I was on the verge of crying, seeing him angry like this. I thought he was just cute and stuff but after seeing him vent out his anger like this, I can never go back to that again.

I can understand why Charlie told me that Alan wasn't cute. The way Alan's voice raised and the aggressive grip on my shoulder tightened again can never settle right with me. I was terrified.
