"Verity, what are you doing?" Hyunjin perplexed.

"I don't fucking know." I mumbled, still dragging him down the sidewalk.

"My car's that way." he pulled me back, causing me to stop in my tracks. Well, that's just embarrassing.

"Right. Sorry." I cleared my throat, releasing his hand and letting him lead the way. "I just don't wanna run into Yongbok again."

"Yongbok? I haven't heard anybody call him that...ever." he raised a brow. "You guys must have been close. He never introduces himself by his birth name."

"I wish." I muttered, but I knew he heard me.

He slowed down beside me, his hands deep in his pockets. We didn't dare make eye contact with each other because we didn't feel obligated to.

"You liked him, didn't you?"

"What? No." I scoffed, but my face grew hot. "I'd never."

He chuckled. "We both know that's a lie."

I sighed in response. I knew there was no use in arguing. He always figures me out so easily. "What made it obvious?"

"I don't know." he shrugged. "I saw how awkward you guys were with each other, and I figured you didn't want to ride with him because there were some...crushy feelings."

It shocked me how he was so observant to figure all of that out. It almost amazed me.

Oh, who am I kidding? Anyone would be able to tell that I was head over heels for Yongbok just by seeing my cheeks glow red at the sight of him.

"It doesn't matter anyway. I don't like him like that anymore. I wasn't even expecting to see him here, and I'm worried that he thinks I'm disgusting for having such a massive crush on him last year." I frowned, and Hyunjin nodded silently. He was listening intently, and it made me feel like my feelings were actually being acknowledged.

"He doesn't even know about it. You're fine. Now, it's up to whether you like him this year or not. But you don't, right?" he faced me.

I crossed my arms and bit on the inner skin of my lip. I didn't know the answer to that.

"No, I don't." I spoke hesitantly.

"You sound unsure." he pointed out, and I almost forgot how good he was at spotting all these little details.

"Look, I don't wanna talk about it." I quickly dismissed. I thought he was going to keep pushing me for answers, but he didn't. He just stayed quiet.

Yongbok wasn't waiting at the entrance like I expected him to, so we made it to Hyunjin's car safe and sound. He drove a sleek black Challenger which supported my realization of just how much money he had. He opened the door for me and let me step inside.
