I swung the door open and marched after her before she could cross the street.

"Wonyoung." I grabbed her shoulder and spun her around. She looked baffled.

"Oh, Verity. Wasn't expecting to see you here." she smiled as if I hadn't caught her lying straight to my face.

"Really? Because I think I should be the one saying that. Did you really have to lie to me?" I crossed my arms. "If you're out doing things in secret with the rest of them, you could've told me."

Her brows furrowed. "Verity, what are you talking about?"

"You told me you were at home babysitting, but you're clearly going to whatever group meeting that's going on without my knowledge." I blurted all in one breath, and her eyes widened.

"I don't know what you're talking about." her tone remained even. Was I wrong? Is she telling the truth?

"If you don't know what I'm talking about, then why are you all the way out here instead of at home?" I raised a brow.

She laughed at me and I suddenly felt really stupid.

"I'm picking up food for my sister, and I can't leave her alone for too long so I'm trying to hurry." she explained, and to my disappointment, it made perfect sense. Why did I jump to conclusions so quickly? She must think I'm insane.

"Oh my god. I'm sorry. I shouldn't have assumed—" I looked down, ashamed.

"Verity, you're okay. I totally get it, you don't have to feel sorry." she smiled kindly, placing a reassuring hand on my shoulder.

When I locked eyes with her, I started to wonder. Wonyoung basically knows everything about the school and the students. Maybe she knows where they've all gone.

"Hey, but...can I ask you something?" I started hesitantly. She nodded.

"Sure, anything."

"Where did everyone go? Hyunjin and Brooke ran off earlier and half of the school is missing." I told her. "Is there like a meeting I don't know about? If you can't tell me or something, it's okay but I just hate being excluded from things." I pursed my lips, hoping for a credible answer.

Her jaw tightened the slightest bit, which heightened my suspicions but they were quickly forgotten when she answered me with full confidence.

"It's the Pacifica Study Group, the biggest club in the school. They're having a meeting today to welcome new members." she informed me. I nodded, because it made almost perfect sense. What I still didn't understand was why I wasn't allowed to know about it. If it were just a study group, why were Hyunjin and Brooke being so secretive about it? It just didn't add up.
