chapter 4.) "trepidation"
January 27th, 2024
I know it's about seven in the morning, and I usually save my entries for the end of the day, but I discovered something that I really wanna share. And since people don't generally care when I talk, I'm gonna do it here!!
THERE'S A LIBRARY IN THIS HOTEL!!! I felt the need to write that out in all capitals, because I really can't stress how happy I am at that. And it's rather large, too! It's incredibly old and desolate, and half of the books look as if they're about to disintegrate into piles of dust. I found it during one of my walks around the hotel. Just opened this pair of wooden doors, and I literally felt myself ascend at the sight—maybe that's a bit overdramatic, but seriously, this is AWESOME! I haven't seen an actual library since before Earth!
And I know that I shouldn't be too excited about the state of the room, but that means I get to renovate it! EEK! This is actually amazing!
I asked for Charlie's permission to oversee such an operation—and she said yes!! Today, I'm gonna run out and get cleaning supplies, a BUNCH of paper and ink, and some other stuff, too.
When I was ten, Elena taught me how to make and dye leather book covers. And I knew my sister had never liked me much, but at the time she had been going through some sort of crafting obsession phase. She had been willing to share what she had learned with quite literally everyone—including me, so her distaste for me had been put aside temporarily. And I'm really grateful that she did!
It's going to come in handy now—oh, I'm really excited just thinking about it! I have a plan; take the old books that look partially destroyed, rewrite them with the paper and ink, and then make the covers and sew them together! That reminds me, I'm going to need sewing supplies. And it's going to take me a while, too. For an amateur, binding a book takes about two weeks. But I'd like to think I know what I'm doing; plus, I can multitask! So in about four days, I can make probably two books. And no, that's not the same as two books a day. I mean in four days, two books can be completed at the same time.
But anyways...I digress. Once I'm done, bam, it's a brand new book! Then I'll put it on the newly dusted shelves, and repeat the process! Of course, all books will be organized by alphabetical order of the topics and divided into miniature subsections. Each with their own little space!
Oh, all the possible subsections! Cleaning off the shelves and tables and organizing the books, I get giddy just thinking about it! I live for a good clean, and I was always taught that organization is the key to a successful life. Or, in my case, afterlife.
There's so many colors I could buy for the leather dye...I'm super excited! Everything's gonna look so pretty when I'm done! But I gotta clean first...everything's really dusty. And we can't have a dusty library, now, can we? Good thing I've got a bunch of money saved up!
