Third Person POV -
The afternoon was approaching, Rody had just helped out an old couple pay for their meal and was starting to clean the tables for closing time; Vincent was in the back watching as each of the cooks left to go home, picking up any small messes that they had left behind.

.

The back door swings open, Vincent perks up at the sudden disturbance, stopping his cleaning. Rody walks in, his hands brushing against each other as if he were to clean off the germs by just a simple clap. The chef frowned upon this, it seemed rather stupid, but whatever satisfied that man..

"Heyyyyy Vince, I was thinking if I could get my pay check early this week.." — Rody says as he places his hand behind his neck, rubbing it to calm his nerves as a slight sweat dripped down.

Vincent raises his eyebrow, his eyes narrow, he pauses for a moment before speaking up, "May I ask why you would want your check early?"

"Well I wanted to see if I could try one more time to contact Manon and take her out, maybe get her things that I wasn't able to afford before.." — Rody mumbles out the last part, hoping Vincent didn't hear (spoiler he did).
Vincent sighs before placing two of his fingers on the bridge of his nose and giving it a light squeeze in frustration, "You know, you can't just keep chasing your ex.. Plus money shouldn't be the only reason why she is staying with you."

Rody is taken back by that statement, he quickly jumps up and waves both of his hands as he reasons, "You are missing the point! She doesn't want all of this, I'm just trying to prove to her that I'm doing better now and we can try again. Besides she's the best woman out there and deserves everything this world has to offer for her !"

Vincent stands straight, crossing his arms, and letting out a sigh. He begins to walk towards his office, Rody following right behind him. Both men are standing beside one another at Vincent's desk before Vincent disturbs the awkward situation by opening a drawer and grabbing out a blank check. "Don't expect this to be an everyday thing, I've only made an exception for you this time .." — Vincent warns which Rody eagerly responds with a nod.

.

Vincent finishes writing off the check and hands it to Rody, "Thank you so much, Vince! And I reassure you nothing like this will happen again" Rody smiles as he picks up the check, like how a kid would when their parents finally give in and buy them candy. Vincent can't help but chuckle at this before rolling his eyes and guiding Rody outside of the bistro before closing up and waving goodbye to his dear waiter.

.

Rody bikes to the nearest phone booth and eagerly presses the digits to Manon's number; the phone begins rings.
A familiar voice comes through, "Hello?"
Rody can't help but smile, his stomach flutters, it was Manon! His true soulmate, his beloved, and hopefully his soon girlfriend!
"Hey- uh Manon, it's me, Rody. I was wondering if you'd like to go out sometime with me since I have enough money now and maybe this could be some sort of start to trying again? We could discuss this over some dinner or coffee, and then go shopping." —Rody stops himself before he could ramble much longer, awaiting Manon's response.
There was a pause, and an audible sigh.
"I'm sorry Rody, it's just been so long since we last talked and I have found another man that has helped me through these harsh times.. I've already moved on, and I think it's your turn to do the same. This is what is best for the both of us, I'm sorry.." — And with that, the line was cut, leaving Rody there in silence as he processed what just happened..
*This couldn't be true, right? Manon couldn't possibly get over that quickly?* No matter how many questions and excuses Rody thought of, he couldn't deny it anymore.. Manon had moved on to have a better life, and all he could do was to accept it and do the same.
